I’d go with “point blank denying they had broken the rules at incredible length, while being very well aware they had deliberately broken them to gain a competitive advantage”. It is both doing the crime and then relentlessly lying about it, that is so bad here.

And even the Red Cross stepped in to say, that "the horrific attacks Israel suffered last weekend...cannot in turn justify the limitless destruction of Gaza.”
