Background Image: Blush pointe shoes on a white fur rug underneath lighted Christmas Tree branches. Text: Dee stepped between us and looked up at Kyle with an unimpressed brow raise. “What part of ‘There you go’ are you having a problem comprehending? You had a dance. It’s done. She’s not into you. Now go away.” “Ever think you girls could use an attitude adjustment?” He chuckled and then nodded back toward the rest of Dee’s girlfriends. “All of you here without dates? I can see why.” “Wow. You’re an even bigger clueless moron than I suspected.” Dee smirked back at him. “Our worlds do not revolve around you or what you think. Now run along, little boy.” She flicked the tips of her fingers, shooing him away before taking my hand and walking over to the bleachers with me. “God, he’s such a pain in the butt. I’m convinced it’s a brain injury of some sort.” “I probably shouldn’t have given into him on that dance, huh?” I sighed and carefully smoothed the back of my dress down before sitting. “I just figured that maybe it would be an olive branch of sorts and he’d stop being so damn creepy.”

Background Image: Blush pointe shoes on a white fur rug underneath lighted Christmas tree branches. Text: “Don’t look up at the ceiling! God can’t help you. He’s too busy with starving children!” Mr. Vacanti’s thick Italian accent rattled off the mirrored walls. I’d just finished a line of piqué turns across the dance studio floor, flubbed the ending, and stood with my hands on my hips as I muttered at the fluorescent lights, thoroughly annoyed with myself. “Again! You should be leading with your toe. What is this thing you are doing with your knee? Are you injured? Are you going lame? Come on now! Again!” he demanded. I closed my eyes for a moment as I tried to catch my breath before I danced the long line of turns and steps; spotting against my reflection as I twirled across the floor. “Fuck,” I breathed when I finished and bent over with my hands on my knees, exhausted and mildly dizzy. “If you go wrong, don’t say ‘fuck’. Ballet is a silent art. Mouth it.” Mr. Vacanti shook his head as he grinned, amused with his ongoing torture no doubt. He walked over to a sophisticated stereo system setup against the wall and primed the piece of music he’d been having me practice jumps to. “Fuck!” I mouthed to myself as instructed, unsure where I’d even find the energy to do what he was requesting of me now.

I’ll keep working at the solos and hopefully, we’ll either find a new lead or I’ll embrace the role myself. Trust me, it’s good this happened now before we get any further into things like record contracts and all that binding legal shit.” “Chris is pretty pissed,” Dee unsuccessfully tried to stifle a giggle. “Mouth like a sailor for over a week now, doors being slammed nearly off their hinges, and music blaring on the other side of the wall at all hours.” “Yeah, well… That’s on him. Gave him plenty of chances.” I shook my head and then glanced behind us as the crowd pressed us more against the front of the stage. It was growing louder every passing second and I figured we had about ten more minutes before the show would begin. I looked at Rachel who was staring up at the stage, admiring the lighting trusses and amplifiers. “Can’t wait to see you guys up there.” She looked over at me with a smile. “It’s gotta be addictive, you know? Could you imagine if this was your show? All these people here just to see you?” “The thought is not unpleasant.”

Background Image: Blush pointe shoes on a white fur rug underneath lighted Christmas Tree branches. Text: Shawn chuckled and motioned for me to go ahead of him, lifting the box up the two steps and giving it a shove out door past me. The other five followed suit. “Where’s all your muscles, eh? You shake pom-poms for hours at games. You should be packin’ some serious guns,” he teased. “Not sure that’s how it works.” I laughed as I opened the box nearest me and pulled out a black tablecloth, holding it patiently while Shawn looked around the interior of the massive white tent erected over the space. “Holy shit, hon!” He laughed. “How in the hell did you do everything up there?” He pointed up at the vaulted ceiling. “Rent a cherry picker?” “Oh, we are not speaking of that traumatizing decorating adventure. My neck and shoulder are still killing me.” I looked upward with a cringe. Chris had at least assisted me with that part, helping me wrap long swaths of purple, black, and gold organza over the inner ridgepole of the tent, swagging it out to the surrounding sides along with what felt like thousands of strands of white twinkle lights. The entire ceiling was a starfield-backdrop for the four dramatic white chandeliers hanging down the center. The only job we had after they were up, was swapping out the plain candelabra bulbs for ones that flickered, which meant me, perched on top of an extremely tall ladder with my brother only mildly concerned for my safety. Once that was completed, he bailed on me and I’d been trying to make a dent in the rest of what was left… which was a lot!

Background Image: Blush pointe shoes on a white fur rug underneath lighted Christmas Tree branches. Text: I looked down at the flower in its plastic case, unsure if I really wanted to look at what accompanied it, but it seemed Dee was going to decide this for me. She popped the top open, fished out the note, and handed it to me as she sat down. “Let’s see what he’s got to say.” I set the box in my lap and opened the small piece of pale blue paper, finding his scrawled handwriting across it, though far more legible than I’d seen it in the past. I’m so sorry I ruined tonight for you. You look beautiful… as always. I handed the note over to Dee and looked down at the flower. It was pretty and something I’d always had the silliest romantic notions about as a kid. A handsome man would give me a single flower, sweep me off my feet into a romantic dance, and seal it all with a toe-curling kiss. So much for fairytales.

Background Image: Left Side - "E-Book Available for Pre-Order Now!" Paperback & E-Book release date: June 20, 2026. Book cover - An amber-colored electric guitar on a tan fabric background. Right side - A grassy pasture with horses grazing. Text: Guilt pricked at my conscience as I stood there, my hands clenched in anxious fists as I tried to slow my heart rate back down. They were nice people. It took little to see that. It was just that they were better off not trying to make this some kind of close family thing. I didn’t want it, and I sure as hell didn’t deserve it. Looking around at the cheerful yellow walls of the simple bedroom again, I trudged to the window to sit and take in the view. Sprawling fields stretched out past the rear of the barn, and beyond them was a house with tall white pillars and a wide veranda along its entire front. Off to the side sat a small, detached garage, behind which an orchard dotted a hillside as far as the eye could see. Even with all the hills and mountains surrounding this valley, there was still way too much sky for my liking, and I felt very insignificant under it. Like an insect trapped under a glass, observing a world through a warped kind of lens. I shifted on the tufted cushion, taking in the decor of my new room until I caught my despondent reflection in the dresser mirror on the other side of the bed. Hopelessness and loss washed over me in succession. This was my life now; this quiet, sun-filled space with its unfamiliar smells and sounds. I realized I’d have to force myself to adapt to the complete opposite of everything I knew, whether I liked it or not. What else could I do?

The door whipped open. “Your son–” Dee scowled at me and slugged me in the shoulder. “I was pinning something, you know.” She smirked and purposely held up a bandaged middle finger. I laughed and offered her the CD, pulling it back when she made a grab for it. “Hand over that Mercury album and I won’t take out the rest of ‘em.” With an exasperated sigh, she spun, giving me a smack in the face with her ponytail. She walked over to her Discman, plucking out the disc and popping in its case before offering it in a trade. “This was never in my possession,” I tried to give her a no-nonsense stare down as I handed Daith’s over. “I’ll forget who you are entirely.” Dee rolled her eyes at me, took the CD, and shoved Mercury’s in my hand. “Until you wanna hit on my best friend and you want me to smooth your latest ‘bad move’ out for you?” “Don’t know what you mean.” I feigned indifference as I flipped the case over to look at the song titles.

Background Image: An amber-colored electric guitar in front of a small Fender Amplifier. Text: It turns out I didn’t even have to bring up any of our reasons. The first thing we encountered when we met up with our friends was Dee, still helping Rachel get random pieces of popcorn out of her long hair, and Chris, clearly in desperation mode as apologies continued to pour out of his mouth. No one seemed to be listening except maybe Maria, who was examining the state of her cola-stained shirt with dismay before shooting him a dirty look. A second perturbed scowl entered the picture, this time from my best friend as we reached the back parking lot and Dee worked out the driving situation for herself before promptly nudging Rachel over by my side. Chris frowned as he looked between us, sighing as his non-date stared down at her shoes so she wouldn’t have to encounter his disappointed expression. Dee towed him to their car after giving Gabe and I quick hugs, and Rachel a longer squeeze and a shoulder rub. She was salvaging everything as best she could, considering what she had to work with. She flashed me a hopeful look as she grabbed her brother’s arm to steer him away; one that begged me to smooth things over and reassure her new friend that we weren’t all clumsy, clueless idiots.

Background Image: An amber-colored electric guitar in front of a small Fender amplifier. Text: ”Heh, no.” Dee scoffed out a laugh. “It’s never too early. We only have these three dances left.” She held up a finger for each. “Homecoming, Winter Formal, and the Senior Ball. Then that’ll be it forever.” She looked so unhappy at the thought of it all, I found I couldn’t even make eye contact with her as I busied myself closing the cap on Rachel’s bottle of lotion. I still needed to get us off this topic, though. I wasn’t remotely ready for girls obsessing over formalwear and critiquing everything about my fashion sense. “Bit over-dramatic there, don’t you think?” I rolled my eyes and instantly regretted it for the hurt expression I caught out of my periphery. Rachel shifted to face the water again and stretched her long, slender legs out in front of her, drawing my attention to the movement against my will. “You don’t like school dances?” There was hopefulness there, it was impossible to miss. I gave a shrug, tapping the bottle distractedly against my palm a few times, trying to buy myself time to formulate a gentle answer. Second fail. “Not sure it’s as big of a deal for us guys is all.” Her quiet “Oh” made me nearly backtrack. “I can get the rest. Thanks.” She swiped the lotion out of my hands before I could amend my statement. She got to her feet and tortured me with a thorough application to the backs of her legs.

Background Image: An amber-colored electric guitar in front of a small Fender amplifier. Text: After fidgeting with the hem of my dress while they arranged themselves behind mics and drum kits, I folded my hands tightly in front of me to try to keep still. Get it together, Rachel. You wanted to hear this, remember? Could have demanded Dee take us home, but noooo, you let those guitars seep under our skin and here we are. Gotta see it through now. Head up. Don’t you give him the satisfaction of gossiping about that when we leave. I looked up, right at Shawn, making him pause a second as he pulled his pick from between its place near the tuning pegs of his guitar. A slight smile was offered before he played a few chords and peeked over his shoulder at Gabe and Erik to see if they were ready. Another glance over at Christian along with a few quiet words and they were apparently set to begin. What I was immersed in after a subdued six-count was surprising to say the least. If you took the telltale amp grunge out of a mix; if you could wrap your head around the possibilities of what a studio track would be like in its place, you were left with… amazement. I didn’t care that I still felt half-deaf from Original Overdose’s concert an hour ago, I was thirsty for sound that would seep into my pores and become part of me, and they were delivering. There was room for more edge, sure, but the chords were tight and melodic, the percussion was spot on, and Shawn’s voice? I blew out a slow breath to steady myself. His tone and inflection were perfection. He’d been singing for years and years. I could tell. He also had that look vocalists seemed to be born with; eye contact that made your insides quiver and a cocky grin to flash between lyrics like a goddamn cherry on top.

Text: Before I could determine that, though, I needed to endure the wrath of Nicole, and with every step I took toward the bank, her fingers clenched more and more into her pale green beach towel. I wasn’t sure if I should acknowledge her or not and debated for a few more steps before I figured playing the ambivalent asshole in front of everyone wouldn’t color me in the best light with the silent girl sitting to her left. “Hey Nik,” I kept my voice low as I stepped up on the only space on the grassy bank not occupied by teenaged girls sprawled out sunbathing. Her plump lips mashed together hard as she looked away from me, encountering Rachel, who continued to watch silently. Even though nothing at all had happened to warrant it, I watched Nikki’s shoulders slump with what I can only speculate was hurt and humiliation, neither of which I wished on her despite how things ended. I forced myself to step by her, pulling my towel out of the thick grass and giving it a rough couple of flicks to clean it off.

Background image: An amber-colored electric guitar in front of a small Fender amplifier. Text: Pulling my overly-photocopied school map from my bag, I squinted at it, trying to recall what hallway my locker was in. I knew it was on the upper level, but with everything looking the same from the white and red speckled tile beneath my feet, to the endless rows of lockers, and now the slight disorientation of movement all around me, I was grateful to have the rough position circled in blue pen by the secretary that day. Second floor, north wing. I arrived at the row of solid wood doors leading into the mysterious auditorium and turned right, walking toward a staircase a quarter of the way down the hall. Rounding the banister at the top, I followed my sad little diagram to a spot roughly over where I’d been standing downstairs. Number… I checked the other side of the map with my class schedule, student ID number and other information jotted down on various pre-made lines. Four-twenty-eight. It was just ahead past the banister and above another locker I was thankful no one was trying to access. I wasn’t sure how long it might take me to get used to this new combination lock.

Background Image: An amber-colored electric guitar in front of a small Fender amplifier. Text: I grabbed my rain-soaked sneakers in my panicked sprint out his front door, encountering a heavy downpour as I hurried down the front steps. I flinched as sharp gravel bit into the soles of my feet, but I forced myself across despite the pain, throwing my shoes over the fence as I reached it. Scaling the weathered boards, I landed in ankle-deep mud, promptly falling forward on my hands and knees when I lost my balance. When I glanced over my shoulder, he was still standing in the doorway frowning at me in dismay, but this time he didn’t come after me. I pushed myself up and scrambled for my shoes, shame forcing me to turn and flee the look I could see in his eyes. He’d never understand and I could never tell him. It wasn’t his fault, and I had no right to make him deal with the state it left me in. I never should have done this. Running across the pasture, I made the slippery, muddy trek to the barn and hauled the door open. Once inside, I doubled over breathless and soaked to the skin for the second time today. Memories overlaid his face still, marring what had felt so nice only minutes ago, twisting it into such ugliness I thought I might throw up. I squeezed my eyes shut as I shook my head. Maybe none of this had happened. Maybe this wasn’t real. Even though I was very afraid of where I could find myself, I crossed my hand to my opposite arm and gave myself a pinch. Looking down at what I was wearing, I let the tears trail my cheeks as I pulled my wet shoes on while oppressive hopelessness washed over me again.

I was pretty sure they sold out shortly after announcing their tour dates in June.” “My dad has connections.” I always wanted to brag about what my father did for a living, but he made both Chris and me promise to keep it quiet. It was doubly hard now when I had a new friend who loved the same music I did. “Is your family in the mafia?” She gave me a suspicious look, followed by a cheeky smile. “I could answer that, but then I’d have to give you some cement shoes instead of those sexy boots.” I joked back as we slowed down for the reduced speed zone in front of the high school. “Seriously though, he just has friends in the business, is all.” Rachel peered at me again. “That’s exactly what someone who’s in the mafia would say to throw a person off the scent, you know.” She made a V with her fingers, pointing to her eyes and then mine. “Watching you,” she mouthed playfully.

Maybe it was good he wasn’t giving me his undivided attention. “In a way…” he echoed, finally pausing things and setting the controller aside. “So, I guess the question is…” He slowly got off his bed, stretching his arms over his head with a groan as he eyed me. “How eager are you to get back to your little party over there?” My eyes lowered to where his t-shirt rose up on his torso, giving me a glimpse of his stomach and the light trail of hair that traveled downward. I winced, but the vertigo accompanying the jerk forward dashed any hopes of resisting. I stumbled more than a few times before she deposited me in the back of the checkered cab and closed the door in my face. With my pulse hammering from the exertion, it felt like I had a head full of angry bees buzzing and stinging every time I so much as breathed too deep. The remaining conversation between my sister and the woman became too muffled to make out, but then again, I suspected this was the intended effect of dosing me before marching me out the front doors. She’d ensured I was incapacitated just enough to be unable to put up a fight. I could also tell she had no intention of letting me know where she was sending me next. It could be upstate to another psych ward for all I knew; anything to never have to see me again. The fact remained that if this facility hadn’t come under public scrutiny, she would have left me here to rot. Background: "E-Book Available for Pre-Order Now!" Release date: 6/20/26. Book cover: An amber-colored electric guitar on a tan fabric background. A grassy pasture with horses grazing. Text: Blowing over the lip of my mug, I gazed across the sprawling pasture toward Shawn’s house, its stark white siding contrasting against vibrant green trees with their own backdrop of dark thunderheads. It was unmoving and quiet; even the birds were silent, though a few brave crickets chirped now and then from the grass near the fences. I breathed in the scent of the impending deluge, laced with ozone and dust, and exhaled a relaxed sigh. This was the fourth storm we’d had since I arrived, and I still felt I’d never get enough of how vastly different something as ordinary as rain could be if you just changed the setting. When it happened in the city, it smelled of exhaust, asphalt, and alleyways of damp, sunbaked rubbish. Here, there was an earthy aroma with a sweet tang I had no way of placing, but I seemed to be connecting its essence with my ongoing blank slate; my fresh start was swept in by gray clouds and hour-long downpours while I sat on the porch and willed it all to keep taking hold. I took a sip of my tea, letting the hot liquid soothe my throat as I tucked a leg under me and used my other foot to set the swing rocking. After a few minutes, I returned to my attempts at speaking. Gradually, the worry that I’d be that ‘weird, non-verbal new girl’ at school lessened. I might scrape by as mildly eccentric and socially awkward. Par for the course at this point. The screen door pushed open, and my aunt cleared her throat. “Guess who’s on the phone and wondering what you’re up to today?” She leaned her shoulder against the frame and practically grinned. “He asked if you wanted to come over.” I couldn’t help my smile or the glance toward his house I made as I got to my feet. “Fifteen minutes?” I whispered the request. “I’ll let him know.”

Text: I turned in a slow circle, taking in my surroundings; barn, endless rows of stables, giant pastures, some kind of riding ring, long driveway, and the house; large, yellow and trimmed with dark green. Its four gables and wraparound porch boasted decorative woodwork and spindling while a simple flagstone walkway with tall creamsicle daylilies and purple and white coneflowers led up to the wooden stairs. A matching green swing even hung near the front door by a mounted brass dinner bell. It stared at it all as I inched around the back of the truck to where my uncle was pulling my suitcase out. “She’s been baking all day. I hope you’re hungry.” I wasn’t, and his warm smile was doing nothing to calm my racing heart and sweaty palms. I felt like I was having an internal panic attack the size of the Empire State Building, with every step closer to this new life of mine. Overwhelm and dread accompanied me up the front walk behind my uncle, where he jogged up the porch stairs and pulled open the screen door to usher me in.

Text: “You’re dating a college girl?” Rachel leaned forward to see Gabe past Erik, but he only picked up a pebble and lobbed it out into the water. “No. No. They’re not dating,” I chuckled. He was gonna kick my ass for this later, no doubt, but for now, he needed a reminder of the rules he’d laid down; and the memorable one being that there weren’t any. “Ha. Ha.” Gabe rolled his eyes and took another swig of cola. “You were fifteen when you met her?” Rachel unknowingly continued the torture, which made the situation even better when my soft chuckle was echoed by both Chris and his sister. I propped myself up on my elbows to see what Gabe’s response would be. He could ignore us all he liked, but the new girl was going to get an explanation and we were dying to hear what it would be. “What?” He gave what may have passed as a nonchalant shrug. “I was a freshman. She was a senior. I’m mature for my age. What can I say?”

Background Image: An amber-colored electric guitar in front of a small Fender amplifier. Text: Holding my lighter under the fuse of a large rocket, I staggered away seconds before it whizzed up into the sky. Everyone flinched a moment later as the boom echoed around the hillsides and a big sparkling globe lit up the night sky; crackling and hissing bright pink streaks toward our campsite. “Jesus, man! How much did that one set you back?” Gabe chuckled from where he was sitting nearby, sipping an orange soda in between large handfuls of chips. “Hundred and fifty bucks, maybe.” I tried to recall ‘The Great Rocket Splurge’ as I prepped another firework, swearing under my breath as I barely managed to get away again before it went skyward in a flurry of sparks. “My brother, who will henceforth be known as ‘That fucking guy who burned down the town’.” Dee chimed in from where she sat bundled up like a caterpillar poking its head out of a bright pink cocoon. I couldn’t tell if she was cold or only using it to hide in when swaths of ‘lift off’ smoke drifted across the sitting area.

Background Image: Left Side - "E-Book Available for Pre-Order Now!" Paperback & E-Book release date: June 20, 2026. Book cover - An amber-colored electric guitar on a tan fabric background. Right side - A grassy pasture with horses grazing. Text: “Here we are, ladies.” Vince’s security man patted the crowd barrier and nodded to the double-sided stepladder the crew had been using to get over the chest-high wall. I carefully scaled it, gripping the top handrails before turning to back down the other side to the floor. No sprained ankles were gonna happen on my watch. I steadied Rachel as she climbed over next, and the man gestured over toward the front of the stage. “Better claim your spots. The rest of the VIPs should be here momentarily.” He smiled, stepping aside when the ladder was removed by a couple of roadies, leaving us to pick the prime spots for the show. I skipped over close to the center point and hooked my arms over the plywood wall as Rachel joined me. “Glad you came?” She looked up at it all in awe. “Uh, yeah. Understatement.” She shook her head, stretching a hand out to touch the front edge of the stage. “I can’t believe you know them!” “Well, not know them, know them. It’s been a long time. If I wasn’t pretty much the spittin’ image of my mom, I’m not sure they would have recognized me at all.” I shrugged. “But they’re cool. Old, but still cool.” “So cool…” I heard her murmur, a happy smile on her face. “Hey, when we get home… no talking about the fact we hung out with them, okay? Dad takes this all really seriously. Word gets back to him, and all these fun little backstage experiences are toast, and now I have someone who loves all of this like I do. I’d hate for that to happen.” “My lips are sealed. Ignore this grin.” Rachel laughed.

Background Image: An amber-colored electric guitar in front of a small Fender amplifier. Text: Rain spattered against my pickup’s windshield, followed by the stuttered squeak of wipers I knew I shouldn’t have put off replacing. I cursed under my breath as I squinted through the dreary haze, praying oncoming traffic had their lights on, and no one was walking on the shoulder. I was already running late thanks to Dad’s last-minute insistence I help him unhitch his Jon boat and roll it under the carport, downpour be damned. Swear he’s just thinking of anything and everything to punish me out of spite. It's a boat. Boats are supposed to get wet. Now, I was trying to avoid having a tardy on top of my detention. I knew all too well how that would go over at school and home alike. I slammed on the brakes an instant later, cringing as the back end of my truck fishtailed in my effort to avoid the moron who’d just turned out in front of me from a side street. Gritting my teeth, I fought to correct my trajectory and laid on the horn. “You fucking dipshit! Where the hell did you learn how to drive? Your grandma?” I braked a second time as they skidded to a stop. The driver-side door swung open, and its occupant stepped out. I am not in the mood for confrontational bullshit today. I veered out into the oncoming lane briefly to get around them and the middle finger they were extending in my rearview. Yeah, whatever. Learn to drive, man!

Background Image: An amber-colored electric guitar in front of a small Fender amplifier. Text: “You have two hours. I suggest you get her washed up and in a presentable state. Afterward, pick up her belongings from the Cage and pack them up. Wealthy family from the sound of it and paying a pretty penny to sweep this under the rug so let’s not draw more attention than necessary, hm?” She smirked at Nate, letting the pages flap down into place before tucking it all under her arm. “Tonya will be in to document her vitals and make sure she’s snowed for discharge, as per request.” Discharge? I-I’m going home? My grip on my flimsy woolen barrier relaxed even as Nate tried to hide a sneer. The moment his boss had departed, he snatched my paltry covers from me. His gaze scoured my gown-clad form, making my pulse skyrocket. He leaned over me with a glare, reeking of cigarettes, B.O., and sweat, as his long, greasy hair brushed my cheeks. “So goddamned typical!” he growled, the roughness of his palm sliding across my torso before he flicked open the leather cuff on my wrist. He yanked me upright as soon as he freed my other arm. I gasped as black spots and sharp sparks of light danced before my eyes. The room tilted on its edge as my head lolled backward, heavy with exhaustion and still drowsy from medication the night prior. I wished I had the strength to fight him as his hands roamed across my body, kneading and pinching my skin in his sadistic tantrum. I choked back another round of gagging as the smell of him wrapped around me, earning me a teeth-rattling shake as punishment.

Background Image: An amber-colored electric guitar in front of a small Fender amplifier. Text: “One more time?” She gave a hopeful-looking smile to the three of us. “I nearly have it. I think.” Chris exchanged a look with me that clearly read, ‘Uh huh. Sure you do, honey,’ but he played a few chords in preparation for running through it again. I walked over to where I’d stashed a bottle of water by the couch. “Yeah, no problem. Is that a good key for you? We can adjust.” She shook her head, curls dancing around her shoulders, before she tucked a chunk behind her ear and gave me a small smile. “No, it should be fine. You guys won’t be upset if I improvise in places, will you?” “Hon, you have free rein to do whatever you want with it,” Gabe spoke up with a chuckle. “In fact, if you outshine this one,” he nodded toward me, “I’ll treat you to a shake down at the diner.” Chris shot him a perturbed look. “I can beat that. Take you out for a whole meal. You pick the place.” “Aw, that’s sweet. I don’t put out on the first date, though. Just a heads up.” Gabe joked, ducking as a guitar pick was flicked in his direction. “Apparently, my band is eager to replace me at the earliest opportunity.” I took a sip of water and recapped the bottle before setting it on top of the cooler. “Well, she is far prettier than you,” Gabe teased, adding in a playful rimshot. Remind me to ask, point blank, what the fuck you’re doing with all this flirting after she goes home? I smirked at him and stepped over behind the mic stand again.
