Patana: Residents affected by a proposed mega steel plant in Kendujhar district demanded compensation of Rs 20 crore per acre during the 10th gram sabha held Sunday at a school ground in Barudipashi village under Jamuna pashi panchayat in Patana tehsil. The public hearing was conducted on the proposal to acquire 219.80 acres of privately owned land for the project.

Kendujhar: A ‘gram sabha’ was held Sunday at Baru village in Jamunaposi panchayat under Patana tehsil in Odisha’s Kendujhar district to seek public opinion on the acquisition of private land for a proposed mega steel plant. The gram sabha was chaired by Jamunapasi Sarpanch Shashibhushan Naik and attended by Additional District Magistrate and Special Land Acquisition Officer Rabindra Kumar Pradhan, Patana BDO Manas Ranjan Dandapat, Tehsildar Ashwini Kumar Naik and IDCO Land Acquisition Officer Jaykishore Patra, who heard the views of the affected residents.

Bhubaneswar: The anti-corruption vigilance department of the Odisha government Thursday arrested three contractors for their alleged involvement in misappropriation of public money worth nearly Rs 3 crore in the installation of LED street lights in three different districts during the previous BJD regime, an official said. The arrests were made after an inquiry revealed the involvement of three executants of the LED street lights in the districts of Kendujhar, Nayagada and Jajpur undertaken during 2021-22 and 2022-23.

The accused were identified as Ramamani Pahi and her son Pradeep Pahi. Another accused is absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend those involved, Nandipada police station officer-in-charge Dharmendra Shanti said.
