Today's deep-cut deity: Antheia, goddess of flowers. Antheia "flowering/blooming one" was an epithet used to describe both Aphrodite and Hera, but she also seems to have been a separate god, one of Aphrodite's attendants the Kharites. Antheia has been hard at work the past few days in Boston!

Have art of some of the OCs in my Gunmetal Olympus fic that exists in a wildly divergent AU. (So you probably don't need to know anything about GO past 'Greek Mythos Sci-Fi with Mechs'.)

Information about each in alt text.

A rendition (1814) of the colossal statue of Hera housed at the Heraion of Argos. She holds a pomegranate and her scepter is topped with a cuckoo. Her crown is adorned with both the Hourai and the Kharites, and her throne depicts scenes from the marriage of Hebe to Heracles.

Hades games could still do something with Aglaea, she's the wife to Hephaistos and one of the Kharites in Greek myths, mother to younger Kharites by him.

But Hera has myths which point to her being more than a jealous wife - I think there's more to her relationships with Athena and Aphrodite than rivalry/jealousy, Iris, the Kharites (who were sometimes said to be her daughters - and not by Zeus!) and the Horai were her ministers.

Ah, yeah, I've really wanted to see Hades versions of the Erotes (including Elder Eros/Phanes, are they like Kaos vs/or Aphrodite?) and the Kharites, and the Muses...

Apogoitef, Aganakti and Amichania personifying Dismay, Exasperation and Embarrassment.
Known as The Three Facepalms.

(A strange moment from the 'history stack' of an old hard drive.)

I wonder whether I'd been on medication? Or off it 😆

Not me looking at the birth of Aphrodite, seeing the creation of Pandora in a new light (there's a lot of comparison with Eve by Christians, so) goddesses gave Pandora gifts (Aphrodite, Athena, Kharites, Peitho, Horai) & hey, that lady "Pandora" ...! Hello immortal wives Pandora & Elpis (Hope)! 😂

2. THE KHARITES (Charites) were three goddesses of grace, beauty, merriment and dance. Their two main cult centres were the town of Orkhomenos (Orchomenus) in northern Boiotia and the Aegean island of Paros.

Hera is also given as mother to the Kharites, although not with Zeus that I have noticed.

I think this is clever playing on the ancient depictions of the Graces/Kharites, at least far as it goes in their pose/nudity being familiar to me. A interesting twist away from the Four Horsemen Conquest (Zelos/Zelus), War (Ares/Mars), Famine (Limos/Fames), and Death (Thanatos/Mors or Moros/Fatum).
