Arti

The source page for this notes: "This metaphor of life as a polo game appears in some translations of the Rubaiyat (particularly FitzGerald), but not in the Bodleian manuscript."

Sorry to all the Bodleian manuscript stans!

Blame not this ball, impelled by bat's hard blows, That now to right and now to left it goes, That One who wields the bat and smites the strokes He knows what drives thee, yea He knows, He knows. This...

I used to think that Victor Kiam and Omar Khayyam were related. To be fair I hadn’t seen the latter written down at the time.
Apparently he liked the book of verse so much he bought the whole Rubiayat.

Not an odd question at all. 😊 Poetry is an integral part of Persian culture. Poets like Rumi, Hafez and Khayyam are quoted regularly in everyday interactions and conversations. Thank you for such a generous comment about my poems. It means a great deal. 🙏🫶✨

Surprised he isn't saying that they agreed to call it Trump Super Intelligence.

Stephen Hawking, Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, and Omar Khayyam were super intelligent. AI is just huge processing power pointed in a direction.

"I sent my Soul through the Invisible,
Some letter of that After-life to spell:
And by and by my Soul return'd to me,
And answer'd: 'I Myself am Heav'n and Hell"

“Western Culture” is not a closed system. I remember Post-Impressionists being influenced by ukiyo-e. Cultures are meant to cross-pollinate. You get nice things like FitzGerald’s Khayyam that way.

Myself when young did eagerly frequent doctor and saint, and heard great argument about it and about: but evermore came out by the same door as in I went.

Happy 55th Birthday to the Skull and Roses album. (Warner rejected the band’s name for it, “Skullfuck.”)

With graphics by Kelly/Mouse (inspired by an illustration for an early-20th-century edition of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam), it’s one of the Dead’s high points.

In our succulent collection are these tiles that were fired in Persia (now Iran) and bought in Bahrain.
They feature the great Persian polymath, Omar Khayyam (1048-1131) a poet, mathematician, astronomer and philosopher. Iran has such an amazing history. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
