Dies supposedly found in tomb near Mosul.

More contemporary with your altarpiece is the Golden Legend story of Chosroes in the section on the "Exaltation of the Holy Cross."

Does anyone know of another term for "threatening to besiege and sack a city so its inhabitants will pay you to go away"? I'm stuck on "ransom." Thinking of Khusro I's campaign of 540, culminating in the sack of Antioch, where he raised a pretty penny doing this.

I wonder if this reform may somehow be related to the survival of two Sasanian coin dies (RY 11 and RY 15) supposedly found near Mosul, which are now housed in the Münzkabinett of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

I’d like to have coins to show all this drama. I have a few coins of Khusrō, including this RY 2 one now, and coins of Wahrām Čōbīn and Wistām. One day I’d like to find a RY 1 Khusrō with a wingless crown, resembling that of Ohrmazd IV, possibly minted before his temporary removal from power. 5/

Khusro II is killed on the orders of his son Kavad II #OnThisDay in 628. He was either shot with arrows or starved in a room of precious gems and gold
