I was also the sponsor of the writing club, so I had a ton of stuff. I just didn't hang onto it once I retired. #kitlitchat

Exactly. My feeling is that your telling me my chapter kinda sucks isn't the same thing as telling me that I suck or even that my writing sucks. #kitlitchat

I should be more comprehensive with stuff like this, but I fail catastrophically. #kitlitchat

I love the MG to YA idea. Kind of HarryPotterish. Just finished Nevada Reading Week here & in a Zoom call w 4th graders, they ganged up to tell me to write a romance for their age. It's not something I WANT to do, exactly, but it sure caught my attention. #KitLitChat #romance

Dori says thanks! 😄 Kate said she might not read it since it sounds depressing. 😆 So there you go on two different perspectives! #kitlitchat

#kitlitchat These are some pretty epic questions!

Personally I think a great holiday tie-in book is one that fits in with the themes for each holiday. For Halloween it’s all spooky and creepy, for Christmas it’s joy and togetherness, ect. (1/4)
TOPIC: It's almost Halloween which has us thinking about a lot of things, including... what makes a great Halloween (or any holiday tie-in) book? What #kidlit characters do you see becoming classic costume choices? And why are Reese's cups the best Halloween candy? #kidlitchat

#Kitlitchat I’m mostly re-envisioning old manuscripts, breathing life into them in newer, different forms. Attended the amazing Acquired Workshop offered by Bushel & Peck, and am looking forward to @scbwirockymtn.bsky.social’s conference in October.

Trying to get some illustrations done but Chappell Roan finally releasing The Subway is seriously comprising my ability to stay focused as I break out into full body emersion Sing & Dance alongs. Have a feeling there is going to be a lot of Sing-Dance breaks today.

#writingcommunity #PB #writers I'm curious how to format a #picturebook --- the manuscript side when submitting to lit agents. Is there any website to show a template that I can get an idea? I've goggled & saw a few different ones

Hey #WritingCommunity (especially #amquerying folks)! Some amazing tips from last night's #kitlitchat on writing a pitch, logline, query and synopsis!

Check it out👇
TOPIC: What are your tips and tricks for writing a synopsis of your manuscript? What about a logline? Or an elevator pitch? If you are on the receiving end of these, what are common errors and what would you like to see? #kidlitchat

I like taking a humorous approach to the holidays. My Christmas and Halloween picture books were written for the grown-ups as much as the kids! #kitlitchat

Totally off topic, but I wanted to share on Bluesky while I can actually find kidlit people—the MGHub, which I helped start on Twitter, is having its 3rd annual off-social-media pitching event for PB, MG, & YA authors in May. Here's a link for more info! #kitlitchat docs.google.com/document/d/1...

But as for myself, I'm currently editor-at-large of Tu Books, which I founded as a small press and was the editorial director and publisher of until last month. Now I have a little extra time to work on my bookstore too (curiouscatbookshop.com). Master's in children's lit from Simmons. #kitlitchat
