The Latvian #Constructivist Gustav Klutsis was executed by authorities in Moscow in 1938 during the Great Purge. Studying under the Ukrainian-born Kazimir Malevich, Klutsis pioneered a new age of modernity in design, photomontage and spatial construction.

I don't know why I didn't realise this earlier, but it just occurred to me that I'm doing my assignment of Russian Constructivism during #CrappyCommieCameraParty months.
Like, how did it take me so long to realise the synchronisity of it all?

Left: detail of “Women Shockworkers, Fortify Your Shockworker Brigades, Master Technology, Increase the Cadres of Proletariat Specialists” by Valentina Kulagina Right: detail of “Electrification of the Entire Country” by Gustav Klutsis The central questions being asked then parallel almost uncannily those we face today in the twenty-first century: in the context of massive upheaval, displacement of populations, far-reaching technological change, the establishment of new forms of government and new kinds of commerce, and an expanded media culture, what does it mean to be an artist? Does an artist even have a right to exist? On what basis? In what form?3 Attempts to answer these pressing questions are found throughout the art and theoretical writings of the early twentieth-century avant-gardes in the interwar period, 1918-39. Whether connected to Dada, Bauhaus, de Stijl, Russian Constructivism, or Futurism, many artists responded to changed conditions by abandoning easel painting and the privacy of their studios to step out into the street, participate in collective activities, and engage a wide public whether for political or commercial ends. But what would this new artist be called? This was Soviet critic Viktor Pert

I also use this because my mom & her parents had to flee 🇱🇻 in WW2, so it has more significance to me. Klutsis didn't fall out a window, but he was disappeared. I posted one of his works. I will be avoiding windows & avoiding being disappeared.🤞🇺🇸🇱🇻

Not🏳️‍🌈, but Gustav Klutsis was okay, until he wasn't, under Stalin. Guess he should've stayed loyal to 🇱🇻 & not become a Communist for the Soviet Union. (An actual communist.) I still admire his work, & am influenced by it, to create anti-MAGA works as a fuck you to their totalitarian aspirations.
