In hindsight it can also be a fork/trident, eitherway both are things that grab something once it is pierced/caught. I feel like that's pretty self explanatory so I just want to add onto the knife part: Lu is very close to the (fore)stem which is that central part of the hull.

The problem with my tendency to downplay injuries, especially crafting injuries, is that when I emerge from the Craft Cave (basement) sucking on my thumb, no one believes it is actually just a minor xacto knife incident.
I'm fine; nicked my thumb changing a blade.
