Always impressive to write a conversion by eye alone, but the technology behind Knightlore (and then Alien8 and Nightshade) was considered a jaw-dropping breakthrough at the time. Recreating it from scratch is incredible!

They were all visual ports ie. no Spectrum Z80 code or data was provided, he just played the game and implemented the game as closely as he could - the Beeb only had 32K RAM compared with 48K on the Spectrum. Many arcade game ports were also done this way back in the day.

Oh it was something I did on the Spectrum a way back after Knightlore was released. Was going to do an isometric game. Got as far as the platforms and sprite engine then got a job at Creations and didn’t finish it.

I keep a list of Amstrad CPC 464 games I used to play as a kid. I can’t remember them all, but every now and then I find one I recognise on YouTube or eBay and add it to the list (and download the ROMs)

Today’s find is a good one:
Computer game label for a rather large cassette tape box. Its dimensions are more that of a VHS tape than an audio tape because it housed 2cassette tapes with plenty of space around them. The games depicted on the box are: King Fu Master, Gunfright, Knightlore, Desert Fox, Bounty Bob, Questprobe. Because this is the Gold Collection II, each game title is on a gold bar. There is lightning and a rainbow in the background also, because it’s the 80’s and I think it was the law.
