A wet kookaburra perches on a wooden railing at Secret On The Lake resort in Australia, 2017. Its feathers are ruffled from the rain, and it gazes to the right, framed by lush green foliage. The scene evokes quiet resilience and the whimsical presence of wildlife in tranquil retreats.

“I’d love to have kookaburra friends.”
Since then, a whole family has shown up every morning at 5am… laughing. At me.

Be careful what you wish for.
