LAKKI MARWAT: A police official was martyred in a gun attack in the Kaichi Kamar area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district on Sunday. Lakki Marwat district police officer’s (DPO) spokesman Qudratullah Khan confirmed that terrorists targeted Constable Irfanullah near his house in the trans-river belt known as Kurrum Par area. The incident occurred within the limits of Dadiwala police station. Qudratullah said that the policeman received critical bullet injuries and died on the way to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in the Serai Naurang town. The police official said that the martyred cop was posted in Peshawar and had come to his native village on leave. “After the attack, a large police contingent reached the area and launched a search for the assailants,” he added. Today’s incident comes just a day after unknown terrorists attacked the house of a police official with explosives in the district’s Shadikhel area, causing significant damage. Also in the Shadikhel area, a policeman embraced martyrdom in a fierce gunfight with terrorists on Thursday following an attack on a police post. Over the last few months, several areas of KP, including Bannu, Peshawar, Karak, Lakki Marwat and Bajaur, have witnessed a series of terrorist attacks on police personnel. On April 7, at least five policemen, including an officer, were injured in an explosion in the Shahbazkhel town in Lakki Marwat. On April 20, two terrorists were killed while a police constable was martyred in a gun battle in Lakki Marwat when police conducted a targeted operation.

UPPER KURRUM: Assistant Commissioner for Revenue Saeed Manan Khan and three other individuals were injured on Friday in a firing incident in Upper Kurram Tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The assistant commissioner, accompanied by police officials, along with other officials was visiting the area to enforce the peace deal earlier brokered between two warring tribes. The incident occurred in the Boshahara area of Upper Kurram. Earlier, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government decided to launch an operation against terrorists in Lower Kurram after a deadly attack on an aid convoy delivering food and medicines to the area. In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kurram issued a notification on Saturday. The convoy, comprising 33 vehicles delivering supplies including rice, flour, and cooking oil, along with essential medicines for local traders, was attacked and the mutilated bodies of four missing drivers from the aid convoy were discovered in the Urwali area of Lower Kurram. The victims were found with their hands tied behind their backs and had been shot. Their bodies were taken to a hospital for identification and legal procedures. Intelligence-based operations will be conducted in Bagan, Mandori Ochat, Charkhel Chapri due to several incidents of terrorism in these areas in recent months, according to DC Kurram.

LAKKI MARWAT: Two soldiers travelling in a passenger coach from Karak were kidnapped by terrorists in the Kurrum Par area of Lakki Marwat district on Friday. Official sources said one of the soldiers managed to escape his captors, while the other was taken to an unknown location. Armed men had closed a rural road and were checking vehicles near Wanda Gulapa area, located in the Dadiwala police limits, bordering Karak and Mianwali districts, sources said, adding that the residents of Shah Slaim and other areas of Karak district use the rural roads of Lakki Marwat to travel to Mianwali and other parts of Punjab. Sources said the soldiers were on their way to Mian­wali from Karak in the passenger coach. “The terrorists alighted them from the vehicle and were shifting them towards an unknown place when one of the soldiers escaped from their captivity,” they added. **Cop martyred** Separately, a police official was martyred in a gun attack in Bannu on Friday. Constable Kamran Khan of the district security branch (DSB) was performing duties in the Mamashkhel area when armed motorcyclists shot him dead before speeding away, a police official said. After the shooting, a large police contingent reached the spot and launched a search for the attackers. However, no arrests were made till the filing of this report on Friday evening. After medico-legal formalities at the DHQ hospital, the body was taken to the police lines where a police contingent presented a salute of respect to their fallen colleague. Regional Police Officer Imran Shahid, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Hameed Khan, DPO Ziauddin Ahmed and relatives attended his funeral. The police and administration officials also placed floral wreaths on his coffin and said that his supreme sacrifice would be written in golden words. RPO Shahid praised the official for his bravery and laying down his life in the line of duty. He said that the ultimate sacrifice offered by the cop would not go in vain as cowardly acts by fleeing terrorists could not shatter the strong resolve of the police force against the menace of terrorism.
