Yup. Without warning this morning Columbia University decided that no-cost adjuncts (like me and Ben) at LDEO weren’t wanted anymore.

Most of what LDEO is supporting likely won't remove any additional CO₂ from the atmosphere, but there are side benefits.

I’m extremely honored to have been elected a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society. Of course this wouldn’t have happened without the support of my colleagues at LDEO/Columbia, many collaborators, and the wonderful students and postdocs I had the privilege to work with.
🎊We are thrilled to announce the 2026 Award and Honors Recipients!

Thank you to our members and friends for nominating these exceptional individuals and organizations making a difference in the weather, water, and climate fields.

Follow @davidho.bsky.social He’a a top mind in the field and someone I’ve know since we were back at LDEO working with Wally Broecker and Peter Schlosser among others. 🧪
Hi new followers 👋, let’s have a proper #introduction.

I work on climate, ocean, and carbon at a nonprofit and at a university, but the most gratification I get is when people tell me I’ve radicalized them against cars in cities, or that they bought a small car because of me.

My science career was greatly advanced by a summer undergraduate internship at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), where I met NASA and Columbia University (LDEO) scientists who served first as mentors and then became scientific colleagues. Summer REUs can be transformative. 🌊

I see they haven’t yet purged you and @dustybowl.bsky.social from LDEO directory. This seems an incredibly-stupid move. Do you guys have any insights:
1) did they get rid of all zero-cost adjuncts, or just some?
2) Was this a Columbia decision pushed on LDEO, or originated at LDEO? (not easy)
