Levegh was born Pierre Eugène Alfred Bouillin. He adopted the name Levegh, to honor his late uncle, who was a racing driver.

Levegh was born Pierre Eugène Alfred Bouillin. He adopted the name Levegh, to honor his late uncle, who was a racing driver.

The collision sent Levegh’s car airborne into an earth bank beside the track, causing it to disintegrate and hurl debris into the crowd, resulting in over 80 spectator fatalities as well as the death of Levegh himself.

Une vidéo amateur plus exactement... En fait, un concurrent s'est rabattu brutalement devant un autre qui n'était équipé que de freins peu efficaces (les freins à disque étaient encore très rares) et a dû donner un coup de volant. Levegh arrivait derrière et n'a pas pu l'éviter.

Decided to read a little bit more about Levegh (as I'm only familiar with the Le Mans 55 accident), and I'm fascinated to learn he raced as the sole driver in a previous occasion. The more I learn about the drivers of the past, the more I want to know. So many amazing stories.
