The author of this “amphibious blitzkrieg” was LGEN Robert Eichelberger, commander of U.S. Sixth Army. One of the army’s savviest operational commanders (and one fine tactical as well) of the war, he has been lost to popular history. He should be reclaimed.

I will say that when LGen Leslie proposed this very thing back in the day, it fell apart on the sustainment side. The Army didn’t have enough logistics to support two divs, mainly because all the real capacity is embedded within the Reg Force.

Vimy wasn't even a particularly Cdn battle. Over 40% of the 172,485 men in the Cdn Corps were British. This included 5th British Div, along with most of the artillery, staff officers, and support troops. Even the Corps commander, LGen Julian Byng, was British. Many Canadian soldiers were UK born.
