The final passenger flight, LH419 from Washington, D.C., carried the aircraft registered D-AIHW to Frankfurt in 8 hours and 5 minutes, landing on schedule with 267 passengers and 15 crew on board. The type served the airline for 23 years after its first delivery on November 25, 2003. Lufthansa operated 24 of them in total, and the captain of the farewell flight, board member and Frankfurt hub manager Francesco Sciortino, said the aircraft carried more than 40 million passengers.

The final scheduled passenger flight is LH419 from Washington Dulles to Frankfurt on Sunday, October 18, 2026, landing the morning of October 19. The airline took delivery of 24 of the aircraft between 2003 and 2008, though only four were flying in recent times. Lufthansa had planned to retire the type at the start of the pandemic and grounded the planes, then brought them back when demand recovered and other aircraft deliveries were delayed.

Lufthansa will end Airbus A340-600 passenger operations on 18 October, with the final scheduled service arriving in Frankfurt the following morning, ending almost 23 years of service for the German airline. Flight LH419 from Washington Dulles is scheduled to depart at 17:55 local time on Sunday, 18 October, and land in Frankfurt at 07:55 on Monday, 19 October. A Lufthansa spokesperson confirmed the planned final flight to German aviation publication airliners.de. Aircraft assignments and timings remain subject to operational changes. The airline’s four remaining A340-600s have been operating from Frankfurt to New York JFK and Washington Dulles.
