@stefan Debating getting season tickets next year myself. Although, strangely enough, it only takes 2 trains to get to Etihad Field from Chatham (NJT & LIRR), but 3 to get to Red Bull Arena (NJT, Light Rail, PATH).

these numbers don’t seem that high. i take the lirr at least once a week, which is 6000 km / year. sometimes a bit more + some metronorth and 1-2 amtrak trips and im 9-10km / year

But our expectations are so low. MTA puts out press releases for every little incremental "post-pandemic ridership record" and people print and retweet them. Nevermind the billions more we have put into the system in the meantime.

less available street parking and that's cause folks from Long Island drive to my nabe and take the subway or LIRR. I think they made an adjustment to this but when it was launched, first responders who have to drive all over were not exempt, so that went about as well as expected

As someone who is both an LIRR rider and a subway rider it doesn't bother me. The former should consider themselves lucky they don't have to deal with the police enforcement or annoying new fare gates on the latter's system.

You’d think maybe LIRR would divert Long Beach trains elsewhere like Far Rockaway instead of just canceling them the entire day and terribly reducing service elsewhere on the line but nahhhhh just canceled all day.

I had a reservation for this, but when we went to leave for the city service on our LIRR line was stopped due to something (flooding? Fallen tree? Who knows).

Raising platforms is largely trivial. The problem is that you also need to provide full ADA access as part of that, which is most often not. The MTA lucked out by raising platforms in the electric zone pre-ADA; post-ADA many LIRR diesel stops were closed instead of raising platforms to save money.
