#LLMs
Before LLMs... every side project unfinished.
After LLMs... way more side projects unfinished.

Using "AI" (LLMs) to convert from imperial to metric measurements or vice-versa is a guaranteed way to get the wrong quantities because LLMS CANNOT DO FUCKING MATHS.
Legit the last thing about the NYT I use, but reading this is WILD. They couldn't figure out what nearly every food blog has figured out for *years*?

Really?

Also, "Cooking is about connection" paired with "This new A.I. tool requires you to be on your phone".

Amazing. Truly. 🙄

why don't you use LLMs????????????????????????

peers don’t feed peers’ manuscripts into LLMs!

waiting for the gay and/or trans neuron to be revealed in llms ngl

This is vital. Writing helps us think. So many students are saying they turn to LLMs because they don’t know what to say, and need to hear that not knowing is normal as one starts to write.
Do you need to know what you think before you start writing?

Not necessarily, argues historian Lynn Hunt. In a 2010 #AHAPerspectives essay, Hunt explores how the act of writing itself generates new ideas and why getting words on the page is essential to the thinking process.
How Writing Leads to Thinking (and Not the Other Way Around) – AHA
Writing is stressful. Sitting in my computer chair my neck and shoulder muscles almost immediately tense up as I dig around in my brain for the best phrase or even any coherent string of words.

LLMs do what they are told to do. Investigate Anthropic now

incredibly funny that jevbot gets more interaction on here than all the llms combined. the people yearn for classification

Therapist for depressed LLMs:
you are not your pretraining

a chunk of my dissertation was about how most evaluation metrics for LLMs were missing key stuff because it's not about topline (or top-5 or whatever) accuracy, it's about the error manifold looking totally different. phhhhhhhhew is that the vibe with LLMs

anyway while you're here please follow and support @coyotemedia.org, a worker-owned news outlet for the Bay Area that is actively hostile toward LLMs and the corporations pushing them! www.coyotemedia.org

AI (especially LLMs) is not the inevitable technology these guys think it is.

Very much enjoyed this post on doing math with LLMs.
Scattered thoughts on how doing math feels these days dynomight.net/math/

Can LLMs replace human art? I think they can replace this one I'm afraid.

LLMs, asked to "peer" review 200 papers published this year in top science and medicine journals, either rejected or recommended major revisions 76% of the time. Telling the LLMs the paper was a revision paper made them much more generous.

I think this is a far more complicated issue than most people on here are willing to admit. LLMs are expensive. Not giving accounts to all students means only rich students will use them.

I appreciate this sends a mixed signal about LLMs. There is a parallel with needle exchange programs.
Just got an email announcing that Princeton is offering ChatGPT accounts to all undergrads next semester.

Looking forward to other helpful innovations lIke giving them unlimited heroin or free handguns

unsurprisingly LLMs consistently give out shit opinions and implementation ideas for it

if you don't draw cringe art, who will? the soulless llms? i think not

I love all of the beta reader AIs showing up in my mentions, demonstrating LLMs' inability to understand context
October 28, 2026 at 3:39 PM
this is what LLMs were meant for. cursed Barack Obama impersonations
October 28, 2026 at 5:21 AM
getting thrown out of Marc Andreesen’s Bible Study for saying “LLMs aren’t organisms because they can’t get high.”

the horrifying realization I kinda had for work is that "smart guy with bad office skills" is a position that got absolutely kneecapped by LLMs, if you don't get good at office work you're out. Which for ADHD I'm picking the LLMs, they're a legitimate disability aid.
AI can produce slop (fucking stop it!). It can also be an accessibility tool for non-native speakers and neurodivergent people. If you reject everything AI touches without reckoning with that, you should know how privileged and exclusionary you come across.
r/opensource banning non-english speakers because "we can't tell the difference between ai slop and ai translation" is... uh... yeah. a choice.

so the “LLMs will cause a cybersecurity apocalypse” stuff wasn’t wrong, it turns out
the story goes like this
October 22, 2026 at 8:28 PM
so like, the thing about the protestant work ethic isn't so much about work ethic *as such*. The thing is, a lot of the people who do LLMs actually spend more time working than ever before, because LLMs help make doing things less *painful*. Less manual effort, less tedium, more high level thinking.

(this is a loose analogy) if Data is the New Oil, I think LLMs might be something like a plastic
Through that lens, AI almost feels inevitable. Capitalists concentrated so much data that it began to speak. People then took that and attempted to swarm-clone expensive SaaS products like Adobe Suite (n.b. they are yet to succeed at that).
