Listen, mate. There is a difference in playing LOT5R the exploding dice system, and playing the LOT5R the DND5e splatbook. An example if you mind, as rhetoric is beneath you.

I am not making a statement to discredit homeruling, I am saying that if I want to play LOT5R, I would simply play that!

I played a lot of Lot5R ccg way back when it first came out.

imagine being a hotshot 3.0 designer, getting given the samurai clans from Lot5R and told to make a ton of combat feats for each one.

(also reminded me of Star Wars d6 APs, where the jedi players have to keep making skill checks to get boosts to wielding lightsabers)

The most recent LoT5R did a great job reducing shugenja supremacy, structuring social combat and bringing lore and rules into alignment but it’s still way too fiddly

But I can generally be confident that while I might house rule a PbTA or Forged in the Dark game I’m going to have to house rule them much *less* than say 2nd edition LoT5R. And even the most recent editions of legacy games are generally improvements

Ok. Who am I kidding. AD&D. White Wolf. Shadowrun. Call of Cthulhu. Lot5R. I have nothing from these lines. I must own less than 0.001%.

Must admit, I don't know any of these except Daggerheart, which I wouldn't call crunchy personally. Tho I expect Lot5R is probably a bit crunchy.

My first ttrpg game was at uni, played 3e dnd, quickly followed by a Resident Evil themed D20 Modern and an Eberron module I think? Then I played some Lot5R. The first system I DM'd was Mutants & Masterminds though, with a home rule for witty banter 😂

Both are somewhat complex, but I think Lot5R is more playable. Bushido isn't awful, but like many FGU games it is a bit overly detailed and lacking better examples of character creation and play.
