We caught up with @amandahackettk2969.bsky.social at LPC25 last month, to discuss the Government's work to tackle CVD and how we can work together to achieve those ambitions. Thank you for championing this in Parliament, Amanda!

At #LPC25 Dr Michael Spence, President & Provost, explored how universities can help support national renewal and local pride on a @uclpolicylab.bsky.social panel.

Prof @iiabubakar.bsky.social discussed how the #NHS can drive innovation through reform, investment, and innovative thinking.
If you are interested in universities policy I’ll be on a panel discussing this with @greenmirandahere.bsky.social @pollymackenzie.bsky.social @papiteide.bsky.social & Michael Spence on Monday 3.15pm in Liverpool

Thank you to everyone who came to our panel with @ippr.org at #LPC25 this week!

Our Director @andy-summers.bsky.social provided some good news: "the tax system is so badly designed that there are lots of opportunities to both raise revenue and increase economic efficiency."

Finally, Cllr Waseem Zaffar MBE closed the discussion by outlining the progress made on cleaning the air in Birmingham, and praising Sadiq Khan's work in London.

📣 "We need the government to mandate action at the local level. We need a new Clean Air Act"

Liz from @mumsforlungs.bsky.social reminded us that Manchester is the most polluted city in the UK, with a recent 33% increase in babies and toddlers admitted to hospital with breathing issues. Political leadership and School Streets needed in Manchester and across UK. 🚸

Barry Gardiner MP gave the audience food for thought, arguing that everyone harmed by pollution should be able to bring a case against the government, learning from the story of @ellarobertafdn.bsky.social. He rightly called for a new Clean Air Act - A HAC campaign!

John Whitby MP passionately described air pollution as "an issue that's all around us. Where children play, where they live" and made the first call of the day for new @who.int-aligned air quality targets. Excellent to hear John raise the harms of burning wood too ☣️🔥
