Experimenting with @sim.red's light volumes and LTCGI 💡

VRC Light Volumes v.3.0.0 will support Area Light realtime texture emission, almost like LTCGI. Less physically accurate, but very performant!

You should enable LTCGI on your materials

I've finally released LTCGI 1.7.0, integrating @sim.red 's VRC Light Volumes!

I have also decided to record video patchnotes: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylRA.... I'm not @strasz.bsky.social , but it's fun to try.

Download and docs on ltcgi.dev as usual.

Damn. Looks like Poi contributors are already talking about removing LTCGI integration for their avatar shaders, so the death of LTCGI avatar reflections might come sooner rather than later

Yeah, the LV feature is cool, but some worlds are genuinely better for the more realistic LTCGI reflections

"damn, the LTCGI here is really good!"

"woah, your avi looks photoreal!"

Using @sim.red VRC LV 3.0 dev 2 with @pimaker.at LTCGI 1.7.1 for avatar lighting support, looks perfect.

Also shout out to @frostyx.bsky.social for posting about the force scene lighting tech

How many LTCGI screens is too many?
March 14, 2026 at 7:43 PM
Some really jank math going on behind the scenes here, but it seems I got L1 (i.e. directionality) from LTCGI screens working via Light Volumes. Also does shadowing when baked right. It's an additive volume now.

Past few months have been huge for Popup Studio:
- Removed Arealit
- LTCGI & @sim.red's VRC Light Volumes 3.0 now handle light emissions and shadowmaps!
- Material swaps
- Mochie Shader upgrade to support LV 3.0
- Added Audiopump, allowing for realistic in-world reverb
