So far to archive all of *just* vivado and it's updates in offline mode would need ~1936.44GiB of space, or about 1 LTO6 tape.

Which LTO are you using ? I have an LTO 1 but it's impractical for most backups now. LTO6 would be cool 😎

lto6, oddly. i found a busted drive and a busted sled/drive combo and patched them together. digging through hp's docs and a few late night calls to board techs yielded the appropriate fw and methods to flash the drives to autoloader mode.
once i find employment, i need to upgrade to lto8.

This also means it's more feasible to do LTO5/LTO6 tape backups of the whole pool,
Granted, it's still like 80 LTO5 tapes, but that's for a full pool backup, if you only focus on the most critical stuff for tape backup you can cut that down.

I used to use Google Drive to back up my Plex library, but then they started actually enforcing a 5TB-per-account limit. Now I back up my media and personal data to LTO6 tape every few months, and store them offsite at my mother in law's house. Paranoid, but effective.

Ok, I was thinking I’d throw a big gpu in there and try to pass it through on proxmox, i might have to just build it myself bc all I could see >100gb was workstations which might not have enough bays (I also want some 5 1/4 bays and maybe get a lto6 drive so I don’t have to pay backblaze anymore)

I've often wondered for YouTubers and the who are making huge amounts of raw material they need to archive if getting a second-hand LTO6 drive would be a good string to add to the a backup bow. Finish a project, tar it up, and leave it with family or something.
