The 80th anniversary of the WW2 liberation of Manila comes up in February 1945. My Dad was a 21 yr old medical volunteer at a Hospital in Malate, Manila at the time. His family had escaped the Spanish Civil war in 1937 to the Philippines & were caught in Manila when the Japanese arrived.

The medical staff had gone. Nenuca Campa was among the few volunteers stranded in the Hospital. She took charge of organizing the remaining volunteers. Tony Lahorra, just out of medical school, headed the medical service; Nikolai Felix, a first-year medical student, became his chief assistant.
