Wrong tone because few who hear her will think that (bar only hyperpartisan loyalists)
Wrong strategy because of how Lab24 voters think about Greens. Need more nuance in challenge than try to combine "Reform is unprecedented existential threat" *and* Greens [Plaid etc] are v similar from the left

This has nagged away at me a bit. Lab may have a decent idea of where the Lab24 vote is going, which is really what the canvass returns tell you. But this isn’t necessarily the point as DNV24 is a major source of Reform votes and there will be a trajectory that goes Lab19-(DNV or OTH 24)-GRN26.

![Win or lose, Starmer will own the result of the Gorton & Denton by-election. The prime minister made an unexpected campaign visit to the Greater Manchester constituency yesterday to support Labour’s candidate, Angeliki Stogia. His presence in the constituency suggests a growing confidence within No 10 and Labour HQ that the party will retain the seat, after a fierce battle with the Green Party and Reform UK.
One party source told my colleague Daisy Eastlake: “We think the switchers [undecided voters] are coming over to us rather than the Greens. We are far more embedded here.” After all the Andy Burnham drama, and the speculation about Labour’s vote getting squeezed from left and right, a victory for Starmer would be a massive boost to his leadership.
Going to the constituency means he can now claim it was a personal endorsement from the public if Labour wins. This would be especially important for Starmer right now as Labour MPs consider a leadership change. But the opposite is also true. If Labour now lose, after Starmer blocked Burnham and campaigned in the constituency, this loss will be all on him. The contrast between the Cons 2024 loyal 24% (opppse 35-51) and the Cons 2019% 43% (support 45% to 42%) shows the policy must be popular with swing voters who deserted the Cons - esp Con19 to Lab24 swing voters. The Conservative frontbench are ignoring this to play to the core vote

Also think some over-linking of past Conservative and current Reform support. Certainly is a link, but I'd argue via CON21>LAB24>RUK26 voters, meaning better than you'd expect results in the CSLW region, but not as high in Eastwood, Aberdeenshire West and the Borders as if you miss the middle step.
