Not thrilled by the LabArchives parent company being acquired by Siemens (seemingly to snaffle up their either lifesci softwares). Being an afterthought in big business shuffles doesn't seem like the ideal positioning for an ELN service.

We have LabArchives at Tufts and it has a lot of nice bells and whistles, but I'm pretty sure it's not free. I'm one of a few people that use it in the chem department

Having just completed a year long roll-out of LabArchives then yay and nay! Our biggest users are an eclectic bunch including lab, computational and field scientists, so a single platform can work provided it is sufficiently flexible. 1/2

Yea I think this was the value proposition for them. LabArchives wasn't even mentioned in the slide deck I saw from them crowing about untapped market potentials etc.
As someone that's forced to use LA by work (who has also lost data in an ELN acquisition in the past) that's what worries me!

Labarchives. I quite like it, but like all such systems, needs effort to organise it to suit your and lab's needs and time to get familiar with.
However, price has gone up stupidly. This year's renewal is 2.6x of 2020 price, 43% up from last year. So, looking to move, but not sure where to.

We also use LabArchives at @rothamsted.bsky.social. Its a good system, not free, but at the more affordable end for academic pricing.

In case anyone is interested/finding this later, I've found no positive comments on LabArchives for synthetic chemistry: here or elsewhere. Most other comments have not used language I would reproduce here (though biologists/molecular biologists seem to have a different view).

i dont think it is that often don't worry! this was info from reddit but in my postdoc we used labarchives and i never had a problem with it. my lab uses notion though. we'll see how that goes

That’s a really thoughtful take—thanks for sharing! Sounds like flexibility was a big deal for your diverse group, and it’s awesome that LabArchives helped with standardizing processes and audits. Totally get how budget constraints can make those fancy integrations less of a priority.

Thanks, Alice! St Andrews uses LabArchives which has many of the same features. We are being encouraged to use for data protection reasons, and because the application complies with all of the UK regulations

Hey science Twitter, what do you use for digital lab notebooks?
Because I’m a computational chemist I don’t have a lot of need for a physical notebook, and I like to handwrite my notes on my iPad so I can draw diagrams. So far I’ve tried LabArchives, and I am underwhelmed. 🧪
