Green lizard and red coral against green corduroy, BWC two register 1950s chronograph with Landeron 51 movement made 1937 to c.1970. Made in Buttes, Neuchâtel, Switzerland, BWC are amazing value for looks and quality, as are many 1950s chronographs & complications from minor watch makers.

Here's a couple from a lost Swiss brand called Canoe. It's got an AS 1187/94 automatic inside a case made by Alstater (Alsta dive watches). It's 31mm. Next up, a 36mm with a Landeron 148 under the hood. These are not rare, but hard to find in this condition.

Living watch history: The 1950s were the heyday of affordable chronographs. Landeron provided the cheap and robust movements and Swiss case makers packed them into gold cases rolled so thin that they clicked when pushed - hence their nickname „clicking frog.“

Go to Switzerland in the 1950’s and you’d be looking at a host of these beauties in the Duty Free Lounge and various tourist shops in major cities.

My big concern is that it's apparently the first to use this new movement, the Landeron L72. I understand the desire to use only Swiss movements in the Atelier line, but I wish it had something tried and tested like a Sellita SW510.
