#Lanthimos
I think so. I really liked it. One of my favorites this year but feels poorly marketed. Very similar to 'Birdman' or even a Yorgos Lanthimos film. Not a typical Cruise film. Beautifully made, great sound design, great performances. But it's tricky, deliberately rough, and demands attention.
Finally read Bradshaw's review of 'Digger'. I think he misses the point. The film's crescendo is not Cruise's set piece but that by Plemons. It's a satire on satire. Just not suited to the kind of marketing hype around it. It's not a typical Cruise film. More a low budget indie and a very good one.

“For me, filmmaking is not about making statements but about exposing human behavior so people are eager enough to start thinking on their own and make their own assumptions.” — Yorgos Lanthimos

If you've not seen it yet, I highly recommend Lanthimos' THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER, a brilliant film.

From #FantasticFest:
Luka Marčetič's GIRL IN THE NIGHT is a proper rara avis. Drawing inspiration from Wes Anderson & Yorgos Lanthimos, it taps on the edges of reality so gently as to make it seem entirely possible amid the wild events that take place within.
Luka Marčetič’s dark-tinged rom-com “Girl in the Night” breaks conventions via familiar styling to craft a world close to but separate from our own. [Fantastic Fest]
In the realm of romantic tales, a formula typically applies: two people meet, they spend time together, and they fall in love. The details shift and change with the storyteller, but, generally, this i...

There's a fascinating recent interview with the Hernandez brothers where they differentiate between what they feel is recent indie films and prestige TV ripping alt-comics off (Lanthimos doing Clowes bits, AHS doing Gilbert himself) and people who are honestly influenced by them like Chris Estrada
I only got an hour in, meant to go back to it but haven't yet, so maybe I'm not the best defender of it, but I liked it in large part because of that and the Kurtzman Elder connection - and to be fair, he cited those two and Clowes is apparently his literal best friend bsky.app/profile/elec...

2. THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER ('17) Sublimely weird early Yorgos Lanthimos pic, featuring Colin Farrell & Nicole Kidman forced into making a "Sophie's Choice" about their children's lives, prompted by creepy Barry Keoghan. Darkly funny, scary, riveting A24 arthouse fare 👍

A unsettling, family drama story about a disillusioned priest who seeks the truth behind a strange occurrence when their dreams begin to invade reality. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, starring Jodie Comer and Zendaya.

The premise kind of reminds me of Yorgos Lanthimos early work, Dog Tooth especially with the kind of black comedy violence and discomfort. The older I get the more I respect films that want to cause discomfort -- Fire Walk With Me, for example, which is so sad.
