I've just been looking it up—seems they use the ferries or just toss the bus onto LeShuttle (the train that carries road vehicles under the Channel).
We arrived 2 hrs before our return #LeShuttle check-in deadline this month, but they wanted so much extra £££ for the earlier trains we were in good time for, despite being in the same fare category and they weren't remotely full 👎

That’s a shame. Another option would be to take the Euro Tunnel from Folkestone. They offer a service to take

Perhaps we should ask for a few detachments of the CRS to be sent to Dover.
It will only take them 35 minutes to get here on LeShuttle.

Absolutely, leshuttle is overpriced and stuck right over in the far corner of Kent.
I can get an overnight ferry, with a cabin, wake up in France (or Spain) for half the price and half the drive to get just to the chunnel..
