When the UK first set up Hong Kong’s elected unicameral parliament, the LegCo, in 1985, only corporations could vote.
Today in HK, just 210k corporate voters hold 30 LegCo seats and the remaining 20 universal suffrage seats are elected by 4.4 million voters.

if you want to know how insane the HK LegCo's "Functional constituencies" are, the LegCo member for the "Sports, Performing Arts, Culture, and Publication" constituency is a nepo baby of a real estate tycoon, he voted for himself 4 times, and his vote had 7377 times the power of a regular voter
Functional constituencies was a reason behind why so many unions were formed in 2019-2020. Unions have a small number of votes in the FC, and the idea was the pro-democracy unions could form a united front and force out the traditionally pro-Beijing unions in the LegCo elections

HKer here; my personal observation is that the general populace has become somewhat more tolerant of LGBTQ people (including, surprisingly, the powerful Anglican Church).
But the rubber-stamp legislature is cynically using virulent opposition to gay rights to demonstrate its political independence

They invalidated the previous LegCo elections as soon as they took power in 1997.
Carrie Lam started it with her insistence on extradition.
