#morninglistening to #LeonardBernstein's #CésarFranck D minor Symphony w/the #OrchestreNationalDeFrance on DG, making it sound amazingly French and hot under the collar. One of the best takes!

open.spotify.com/track/779TSG... #LeonardBernstein’s 1974 score for #JeromeRobbins ballet #Dybbuk has never quite made it into the concert hall. Uncompromisingly dissonant, it deserves to be heard more often. #classicalmusic

Today’s listening: #LeonardBernstein’s strangely soulless (IMHO) set of variations #Touches is given the best possible performance by the excellent #ThomasLanners. I’m a Bernstein fan but this piece never quite catches fire for me.

A much underrated English Cathedral I think. Stuffed full of artistic gems by #Sutherland, #Piper, #Chagall et al. And #LeonardBernstein’s #ChichesterPsalms were written for it and first performed there. Lovely stuff. And every so often peregrine falcons nest on the roof. Really. Enjoy.

I'm listening to "Trouble in Tahiti" & "A Quiet Place." #LeonardBernstein's 1954 #opera has some charming jazz idioms but fails to convince; his 1983 opera is just dreary. "West Side Story" & "Candide" are his true masterpieces...
