#Lewisian
The key to the Royal Lewisian System was to use your arm, not just your fingers, to control the pen.

They made a great show of being plagued by imposters, whom they could expose by exhibiting letters in those imposters' own handwriting. The flaw in this, presumably, didn't occur to their clients.

By the 1850s, Lewis (the son, or perhaps an imposter) had diversified and was advertising himself in Yorkshire as "Professor of Phrenology, Plain and Ornamental Penmanship; Practical Mathematics, Phonography, Book-keeping, and English Grammar".

The handwriting, it's fair to say, could be worse.

Lewisian, obvs, but my phone objected!

I do! Im finding myself thinking about all the things the antimemes could be a metaphor for (while not mistaking it for allegory like some Lewisian rube ;)) - the way we construct our identity and memory, the way media narratives shape reality etc etc

One of the loveliest things in the Tankerness House Museum in #Kirkwall #Orkney - a Neolithic mace-head made of Lewisian Gneiss. I'm itching to hold it in my hand! Compare the Lewisian gneiss of the #Calanais #Callanish stone circle in #Lewis #Leodhas (my photo from February)

EDIT4: [Hypothesis: Working memory is the kind neural phenomena that is a “convention” of interventionist (Pearlian) and noninterventionist (Lewisian) causal mechanisms between brain regions. Network mechanism are working in conjunction with intrinsic mechanisms.]

This needs my Feyerabend brackets.

"Flat-footed functionalism in the face of T-duality" - the standard Ramsey-Carnap-Lewis method collapses spacetime emergence from T-duality. Is the deflationary account viable? #philsky #philsci

Flat-footed functionalism in the face of T-duality - European Journal for Philosophy of Science
The goal of this paper is to examine the viability of Lewis-style spacetime functionalism in the presence of string theory duals. This task is carried out in three steps. First, I discuss Lewisian fun...

Thanks Tim, was an amazing walk today with such awe inspiring landscapes.
Also the only place apart from Lewis and parts of Skye where you can find Lewisian…… and I did indeed.
So much glacial scaring and some immense erratics on the lower slopes.

Upright slabs of Lewisian gneiss at Calanais - this isn’t even the main circle. An amazing megalithic landscape! #StandingStoneSunday

Thanks, I want to make more megalithic structures, but these are specifically inspired by the Lewisian stones and some from north Wales in a similar style.

Spent 40 minutes trying to find where David Lewis talks about Hume Highway. (Despite having read the bulk of the Lewisian corpus, it has been, frankly, years since.) And all for the sake of a dumb joke that would at best elicit a wry smile

I'm such an idiot

A critical piece to Lewisian-style communication is code-switching when even talking to different academics about the approach. Here I am neutral and having no interactions on this whole thread or two even gives me extra rope.

And now I find myself reading about modified Lewisian signaling systems which is something missed in neurosci comm bc the neurosci community doesn’t have models of intrinsic causality leading to one battle after between neurophysiologists and neurostatisticians.

A lot of this rests on the idea engram evolution is the neural marker of backtracking counterfactual reasoning. Basically a way to analyze the innate reasoning of closed intelligence systems by making an assumption how arrow of time changes the systems internal activity (Lewisian counterfactuals).

worth adding probably that "rule" needs to be understood in a particularly strict way for there to be a disagreement here.

if a "rule" can be a Lewisian "law" (just the most efficiently compressed summary of a lot of particular facts) then the Aristotelian generalities that McDowell admits count.

The Lewisian is layered time even inside itself. To untangle it geologists needed a marker: the Scourie dykes, injected around 2.4 billion years ago, cut the older gneiss and were then folded along with it - so Sutton and Watson used them in 1951 to split the complex into before and after.

I am going for it: I am going to try to operationalize a biophysical causal model (using Lewisian counterfactuals) of engram function from scratch using this dataset. It will be fully public bare analysis on a topic I am a novice on. On my down time.

Lewis handed its megalith builders the oldest raw material in Europe: Lewisian gneiss runs to around 3 billion years, so the stone was already two-thirds the age of the Earth before anyone stood it upright. Calanais is cut from the same rock a few miles south.

4 fun facts about Scotland's geology:

1) Scotland's geology goes back 3 BILLION years!

2) Our oldest rock is called Lewisian gneiss (pronounced 'nice')

3) Glen Coe was once a volcano 🌋

4) The entire country has been covered by ice multiple times...

in “The Great Divorce,” C.S. Lewis imagines he’ll as a kind of suburb where the houses get ever further apart, further estranging their residents into their own neuroses.

Still not a fan of how AI allows you to construct your own vibes based reality.
