In practice the central bank has tightened, through a lever that gets far less attention than the policy rate. The reason lies in how Liberia's economy works. Liberia is partly dollarized: a large share of bank deposits and loans are in US dollars, alongside the Liberian dollar.

Liberia: LACRA Moves to Localize Regional Cocoa Standard for Liberia
MONROVIA — The Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Authority (LACRA) has reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to strengthening the country’s cocoa sector through the adoption and localization of a regional standard designed to promote sustainable production, traceability and compliance with international market requirements. By Selma Lomax, [email protected] LACRA Director General Christopher D. Sankolo and Deputy Director General for Operations and Technical Services Alpha K. Gongolee represented Liberia at a high-level regional workshop on the African Regional Standard for Sustainable and Traceable Cocoa, known as ARS-1000, held September 29–30, 2026, in Tema, Ghana. The two-day meeting brought together representatives of cocoa-producing countries across West and Central Africa as stakeholders sought to establish a common approach to sustainable, responsible and traceable cocoa production across the continent. The workshop was organized under the leadership of the Côte d’Ivoire–Ghana Cocoa Initiative (CIGCI), with discussions centered on the need for cocoa-producing countries to strengthen their production systems and ensure that cocoa entering international markets can be traced to its origin. Participants examined measures aimed at establishing a unified roadmap for origin-level traceability, sustainable cocoa production, compliance with international market requirements and the protection of smallholder farmers whose livelihoods depend heavily on the cocoa value chain. Among the...

You're conflating two things. Israel's actions and Israel's right to exist. Do you oppose Israel's right to exist? If yes, do you also oppose Liberia's right to exist? Because I'd be very curious how you can oppose Israel but not Liberia without being an antisemite.

Liberia: Dr. Yarkpawolo Takes Liberia's Natural Resource Message to UN Platform
NEW YORK, USA — Liberia’s natural-resource wealth should be managed as a foundation for peace, resilience and sustainable development rather than treated solely as an economic asset, Environmental Protection Agency Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo has told an international gathering in New York. By Selma Lomax, [email protected] Dr. Yarkpawolo made the assertion Wednesday during a high-level Government of Liberia side event convened on the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting brought together government officials, United Nations representatives, development partners and experts to discuss the increasingly important connection between climate change, natural resources and conflict. The event, held under the theme “The Nexus Between Climate, Conflict and Natural Resources: Pathways to Peace, Resilience, and Sustainable Development,” was organized by the Government of Liberia through the Environmental Protection Agency, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme. The engagement is taking place ahead of Liberia’s December 2026 presidency of the United Nations Security Council, with the organizers seeking to draw greater international attention to the links between environmental challenges, peace and sustainable development. Opening the event, Dr. Yarkpawolo said Liberia’s natural endowment presents the country with significant opportunities, but cautioned that the...
