V's dialogue options and substantive choices are constrained within the limits of a middle-of-the-road liberal politics which makes no sense for at least 2 of their 3 Lifepaths, but makes perfect sense given who wrote and developed them

it isn’t just “i did it and you didn’t”, but also the fact that disruption of lifepaths makes education, career attainment, and others things more difficult in a formative period of life in a place with a very rigid and competitive culture

Sanction is a generic rules system with a range of Genre Setups that support playing in various worlds with tweaked character generation lifepaths and, sometimes, additional mechanics. I wrote it because I wanted a game system that was simple, flexible, flavourful and had characters created [1/8]

Listen, nobody will play Burning Wheel or Burning Empires with me bc of rules overload, and yes, there's a minmax way to play those games (which one GM years ago employed to sexist effect--whole 'nother issue!), but choosing lifepaths and skills for narrative and flavor easily trumped minmaxing.

- Make it about the characters in a popular late Middle English outlaw/exile tale.
- Use Traveller's rule of 8.
- Replace class/ancestry/level (YAWN) with lifepaths (YAY).
- Give a copy to a cool NSR/OSR person because you think they rock.

I had a very self-aware moment today that I started my journey as a Nomad, but I've somehow switched lifepaths to Corpo? I feel like there's Something™ there, some kinda mechsploitable there. Nomad to Corpo feels dirty, how did I go from cowgirl boots and jeans to heels and dresses? 🙃🫠🥺😵💫
