A neat way to look for pulsar planets is to use JWST, since pulsars are not observed in infrared.

JWST can spot the planet orbiting the pulsar and tell us what is happening to it!

That's the case for the rare, hot-Jupiter orbiting PSR J2322-2650 -- it has a westward wind!

🌟 HOYS's "Lightcurve of the week" #402 features young binary PR Ori, just south of the Orion Nebula. Component A is itself a binary; component B recently went through an FU Ori-type outburst. The plot is built from ten years of B, V, R, I photometry gathered by HOYS citizen-science volunteers […]

🔭 Exploding stars vary with their galaxy

Across 2,205 exploding stars, Cambridge researchers found those in smaller galaxies made about 12% more nickel. Astronomers use these blasts to measure the universe.

My latest exoplanet transit observation from a few nights ago, so far my first and only clear night this entire month. This is TOI-2046 b, a hot Jupiter orbiting an F-type star 289 lightyears away in the constellation of Cassiopeia. It has a radius of 1.44 Jupiters and orbits in just 1.5 days. 🔭🧪☄️

Astronomers can also observe companion planets outside of the wavelengths we usually observe pulsars in.

For example, this study used JWST to observe a hot Jupiter exoplanet orbiting the pulsar PSR J2322-2650.

The planet is deformed and has a strong westward wind!

Lightcurve, if you’re reading this, I’m NOT sorry.
Ok, apparently I joked too much because now the internet connection is completely down and Lightcurve’s tech help line is giving me a busy signal.

Like in the 90s, when you went to make a call but someone was using the landline to go online on the family computer.

My kid laughed — it’s just like the old days before the internet, so then I explained in the days before the Internet, we could use rabbit ears to watch TV.
I even used an antenna as recently as 2009. (I couldn’t afford cable when I worked in education.)

Lightcurve, please send an old school TV.

Anyway, internet has been down for for more than an hour, and, while Lightcurve has no clue when it will be repaired in Tacoma because it’s “such a new outage,” I can call back at anytime for more non-answers.

I just want to know how long the tech help line rep thinks the Internet has been around.

In happier news, it's been a great week for learning strange new things about the universe. A few highlights:

The Rubin Observatory opened its eyes & immediately discovered 1900 asteroids, including the fastest-spinning large asteroid (once every 1.88 minutes!). 🧪🔭

Guess what, #DARTMission fans! It's another paper with DART results that's just arrived in the literature! Today it's "Photometry of the Didymos System across the DART Impact Apparition" by Moskovitz et al., reporting 9 months of observations. 🔭🧪 (now with link!)
