BOONE, Iowa---Lightedge Solutions, LLC has launched a website where people can learn more about Lightedge and how its colocation data center facilities are different from the large-scale, AI-focused computing campuses often associated with the industry. Several sites across Central Iowa remain under consideration, and the Boone County Economic Growth Corporation (BCEGC) expects to know more about the status of a potential Boone site in the coming weeks.

BOONE, Iowa---The Boone County Economic Growth Corporation has continued it's efforts to encourage Lightedge to select Boone as a sight for a proposed colocation data storage facility. The Boone County Economic Growth (BCEGC) Executive Board invited representatives from the City of Boone, Boone Community School District, Boone County, Boone County Hospital, and Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) to meet Lightedge representatives earlier this week and learn more about the company’s proposed colocation data center project.

After weeks of public comment, Ames City Council voted to impose a temporary delay on LightEdge and other data‑center proposals and directed staff to pursue four immediate actions: define 'data center' in zoning, reconcile electric tariff/code discrepancies, add water/wastewater excess‑facilities thresholds, and strengthen industrial site‑analysis requirements.

The Ames City Council will review potential limitations on data centers and a proposal from LightEdge to build a facility near the airport during its meeting on Tuesday.

Facing heavy public turnout and technical questions, the Ames City Council voted to temporarily delay action on LightEdge’s airport data center proposal and directed staff to define ‘data center’ as a use and fix electric, water and wastewater code/tariff gaps before any approval.

City staff and LightEdge briefed the council on a proposed colocation data center at Ames Municipal Airport (a ~10.9‑acre lease area). Staff and the utility outlined phased electric infrastructure needs, water/cooling details and legal tools; council scheduled a June 30 listening session and expects an attorney memo before any decision.
