I spotted this Rose-ringed Parakeet from pretty far away while at the Limahuli National Tropical Botanical Garden on Kauai, Hawaii. These are native to Africa and Asia.

Took my first trip after the huge accident. Didn't get out much but we did go to Limahuli Garden and Preserve. It's clarity about who brought what plants, and what they do to the environment, was amazing.

Tom's beautiful bird reminded me of this non-native Warbling White-eye we saw last month at Limahuli Garden on Kauaʻi. It was on a rare Pōkūlakalaka (False 'Ohe), which is a critically imperiled plant endemic to Kauaʻi. 💚

Spent last week in Kauai 🌈 hiking every day in the most beautiful mountains and jungles I have ever seen. We also visited the historic limahuli garden and learned about native plants and early Hawaiian agriculture.

Limahuli on Kaua’i.
Limahuli botanical garden on Kaua’i showcases a slice of the ahuapua’a mountain to farm to sea, by re-creating a terraced taro farm amidst the lower slopes of the Three Brothers. The small valley is green and verdant with the stone terraces defining the landscape with manmade ripples.

The hut and taro terraces at the Limahuli National Tropical Botanical Garden. To demonstrate what an ahupua’a would have looked like, the garden showcases a slice of land that has been terraced in the traditional Hawaiian way. The landscape is a lush set of undulating green ledges, some with taro fields set on them, set against green mountains.
