And the journey gets slower, as we head west to Bielsko-Biała via Wadowice. Despite the pleasant mountain scenery in the background being a nice sight, the linespeed here reaches as low as 40km/h for long periods - this is rural Poland! 😅

Politely I’m not the biggest fan to be honest but you have to give credit when the TTC hears the music about heir operating practices. Interestingly the update reported by @swanboatsteve.bsky.social was full linespeed while Fort only proposed an increase not linespeed except on 5 in update to board.

I passed this last year and it's quite incongruous (at least to British eyes) to see modern civil engineering structures on what looks like a small branch line.
Given the 30mph linespeed and circuitous route, would a passenger service be able to compete against a bus?

You'd have to increase linespeed, and it's still imperfect. But it's a solid link that would run well as a shuttle into Saltburn. Trying to bring in direct trains from further afield would be a non starter though.

There is indeed - but it would need upgrading, IIRC the linespeed on that section is something like 15mph as it’s not intended for passenger traffic.

Australian defensive linespeed has been good. They're putting Russell and the Scottish midfield under a lot of pressure, stopping them from getting the ball out wide.

But an encouraging performance otherwise. Boks playing with more balance than expected.

A bit more regulation - Chiltern's 1R29 is being held at a red signal to allow 1M42 to speed ahead. I was quite glad to get this one, but with 1R29 being a Class 165 (with a maximum speed of 75mph) and making extra stops, I'd rather my train (capable of max linespeed and not stopping) got ahead!

The feeling now is merely of passing the State Hospital rather than going through it. The linespeed is higher too.

From a defensive perspective, if you can slow the opposition breakdown, you're better set defensively.
Linespeed is better as you're ready and you're not expending energy retreating due to positive carries.
It significantly reduces the chances of an offside penalty, too, meaning fewer cheap yards.

Oh yeah but it can be a manageable trade off depending on demand and frequency and linespeed. Or you add passing tracks at stations.

The two-hourly service Aberystwyth-Shrewsbury is notoriously unreliable. So unless you are prepared to do a lot of linespeed improvement, or lengthen Talerddig loop, running an hourly service through to Birmingham isn't really practical.
