A linnet’s song, clear and insistent, spills a liquid thread in the cool air.

In some sweet flower
we will feel the sun,
And from the linnet's throat
will sing again

"Don't cry, honey, everything will be fine," Maria said gently, carefully wiping a small tear from Linnet's soft cheek.

Her neck is like white melilote
Flushing for pleasure of the sun,
The throbbing of the linnet's throat
Is not so sweet to look upon.

Linnet's eyesight may not have been as good as brother Raven's, but with daily cleaning and drops, she managed as well as any other cat. She loved being chased at eyedrop time and led us a merry dance before flopping onto her back and giving in happily.

"And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet’s wings."

Dropping from the veils
of the morning
to where the cricket sings;
There midnight's
all a glimmer,
and noon a purple glow,
And evening full
of the linnet's wings.

Linda Linnet's birthday party gets more popular every year, this queue's getting longer by the minute. She got the bouncers in this year to stop the meadow pipits gate-crasing

A very early start on "The Linnet's Song" by Modern Folk Embroidery. In my delusion I thought I could finish this in three months as a gift for a dear friend. 😅 #crossstitch #stitchsky #needlework #handdyed

the hawthorn’s bridal snow,
the linnet’s lifted cry,
the light that makes a passing cloud
a palace of the sky,

the foxglove’s purple fire,
the fawn in fern-soft shade,
the hush that turns a woodland path
to something heaven made.
