RE-DISCOVERY #2

Our trip to Okefenokee NWR has resulted in another re-discovery of a long-lost species. Ceratinopsis sutoris Bishop & Crosby 1930 was last seen in 1927 (98 years ago!) and we collected several males and females. The species has a orange-red carapace with black around the eyes.

Two questions for spidery people: 1) What's this chap? and 2) What's the best reference for Linyphiids - is it Roberts volume 2 or is there anything cheaper? The araneae.nmbe.ch website is great if you know what to look up but I'm struggling when I don't know the genus...

Well, there's cephalic modification and there's cephaplic modification, but I've never seen anything as crazy as this outside the #Linyphiidae.

Orange-legged spider Gongylidium rufipes is a sheet-web weaver from family Linyphiidae. It lives in bushes and undergrowth. G. rufipes is very common in Finland where I live. #spidermacro #linyphiidae #spidersky

Introducing the unassuming species Anguliphantes angulipalpis. Male in the first photo, female in the second. These are small spiders, 2.5mm in length, living in leaf litter. They hunt their food hanging under small horizontal webs. #spidersky #linyphiidae
