With teammates from the 1977 Blazers team gathered around him, Hollins watched as his No. 14 jersey was raised to the #RoseGarden rafters. "I'm very humbled and honored to have this privilege bestowed upon me," Hollins said. "The championship was the ultimate moment in my life. #Blazermania and #RipCity forever." Hollins number will join fellow 1977 champions #DaveTwardzik (#13), #LarrySteele (#15), #MauriceLucas (#20), #BillWalton (#32), and #LloydNeal (#36) to have their jerseys retired. The only other Blazer players to have their numbers retired as of 2007 are #GeoffPetrie (#45) and #ClydeDrexler (#22). As well, the number 77 was retired in 1983 in honor of that Title team and coach #JackRamsay.

September 24, 1976 - The @trailblazers.bsky.social opened their 7th training camp at #WillametteUniversity under the watchful eye of new coach #JackRamsay.

#RipCity #ThisDateinBlazersHistory #OTD
Ramsay, who previously coached the #BuffaloBraves, has traditionally opened his training camps with a 1-mile run, demanding that players must finish in under 6 minutes. Any player finishing over that time can attempt another run later in the day or pay a fine of $1 per second over. #LionelHollins led the squad, finishing at 5:14, with #JeffTyson (5:16), #DanAnderson (5:18), and #JohnnyDavis (5:19) on his heels. #BillWalton neared the finish line just behind Hollins, but instead stopped and waited until 5:59 before crossing the line, avoiding a fine. Only #SteveJones (6:11) and #LloydNeal (6:36) failed to run under 6 minutes and paid the fine rather than run a second time.

#RipCity #ThisDateinBlazersHistory #OTD
"The #Portland team was absolutely super," said #Sixers coach #GeneShue, who's team lost 130-98. "They threw us out of what we wanted to do at the start and had control all the way.” #Blazer coach #JackRamsay concurred. “We played a super game. Needless to say, I’m very pleased.” The Blazers recorded their largest lead at 126-85. The 32-point victory became the third highest margin of victory in the #NBA Finals history. The #BostonCeltics defeated the #StLouisHawks by 34 points in 1961 and defeated the #LosAngelesLakers by 33 in 1965. #LionelHollins, playing a team high 33 minutes, led the way with 25 points. #MauriceLucas added 24 points and 12 rebounds in 28 minutes of action. #BillWalton scored 12 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, gathered 7 assists and blocked 4 shots in 26 minutes.

February 20 1976 - The @trailblazers.bsky.social suffered a 56-point loss, their worst loss in their 6-year history.

#Bulls forward #MickeyJohnson, released by the #Blazers two years ago, led the #ChicagoBulls with 21 points.

#RipCity #ThisDateinBlazersHistory #OTD
The loss topped a 52-point loss to the #BaltimoreBullets in the #Blazers expansion season. Johnson, drafted by the #Blazers in 1974, was traded to the #Bulls prior to the start of the 1974/75 season. Rookie #LionelHollins led the Blazers with 17 points, with #SidneyWicks adding 16 more. #GeoffPetrie was scoreless for the first, and only time in his career. For the Bulls, besides the 21 points by Johnson, #BobLove scored 20 points and #LeonBenbow scored a career-high 19 points. #BobbyWilson scored 14 points in 15 minutes. As a side note, as a 14 year old, I watched every minute of this game, even thinking that #Portland could at least close the gap to under 40 points. Pretty sure it's the last time I watched a game on TV this lopsided.

December 29 1976 - For the fourth time in his 6+ year career, #BobLanier again scored 40 points (or more) vs the @trailblazers.bsky.social , leading the @detroitpistons.bsky.social past #Portland.

#RipCity #ThisDateinBlazersHistory #OTD
Lanier finished with 40 points, 13 rebounds, and passed for 9 assists, nearly giving him his 5th triple-double of his career. Despite the win, and the complete game, Lanier is speaking of taking a sabbatical, similar to #BostonCeltics great #DaveCowens, who took a leave eight games into the 1976/77 season. For the #Blazers, who are in a virtual tie for the best record in the @NBA with a 23-11 record, #LionelHollins scored 20 points while #BillWalton and #LloydNeal combined for 29 points and 25 rebounds.
