“He forgot me once at the circus, and they arrested the man that found me.”
That’s some dark shit, Shirley.

Tony Curtis? He was in another remake of #LittleMissMarker,
‘40 Pounds of Trouble’ in 1962 with Suzanne Pleshette and Claire Wilcox as the little girl.

Julie doesn’t say much in her autobiography about #LittleMissMarker except that working with Walter Matthau was delightful.

Do not look up Baby Burlesks. Suffice it to say, six-year-old Shirley had seen things.

They should have aired the Tony Curtis and Suzanne Pleshette go to Disneyland one instead of the Tony Curtis and Walter Matthau go to the pier one.

As a Walter Matthau movie, #LittleMissMarker wasn’t bad.
As a remake of the original, it was lacking.

Watching the 1980 and then the 1934 versions of Little Miss Marker tonight on TCM.
No surprise: The original has way more Runyonesque dialogue throughout.
Casting surprise: Twice as many Black people in the original—FWIW two in menial roles instead of one.

Unfortunately this movie kind of comes down to the kid. And she is not Shirley Temple.

While Siskel and Ebert split on #LittleMissMarker (Ebert up Siskel down) they both said that Julie Andrews was not good casting for this role, that they should have cast somebody grittier for the role (Shelley Winters was brought up)
Siskel said she did nothing for him

It isn't that it's a stiff comedy. It is just very inflexible and does not flow well at all.
