Mike Rogers, a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate seat in Michigan, is under scrutiny for his campaign's association with Living Word Church, whose leadership has faced serious child sex abuse convictions. Rogers is competing to replace Democrat Gary Peters, while the Democratic primary features Rep. Haley Stevens, state Sen. Mallory McMorrow, and former Detroit health director Abdul El-Sayed. Controversy arose after two church leaders involved with Rogers’ volunteer coalition were linked to criminal activity at Living Word Church, where three leaders have been convicted of sexual offenses against children. Tim Cross, a coalition leader, resigned from the campaign without directly referencing the scandal, while another leader, Brian Ford, remains involved despite supporting convicted former youth leader James Randolph, who received a 25-40 year prison sentence. Critics, including former church members Dana and Dan Stahl, have publicly challenged Rogers for remaining silent on the issue for over a month. The Rogers campaign defended him by highlighting his background as a former FBI agent working against human trafficking. Additional scrutiny surrounds claims that Rogers may be living in Florida while campaigning to represent Michigan. The situation has raised ethical concerns about his campaign’s affiliations and the response to serious criminal allegations within its supporting organizations.
