A classic Ffridd boundary bank between the enclosed farmland below and the open mountain pasture above near Llanuwchllyn. This one was huge, looking more like a dyke. They are difficult to date but most are late medieval and post medieval.

Here's a shot taken from our station webcam just a few minutes ago showing a Santa Special train arriving into Llanuwchllyn station.

Today is the last day that we will be operating trains this year.

We'll be back open again over the February half-term holiday next year.

First long distance walk without Gill by my side which felt very odd. Bala to Llanuwchllyn 16.5km/10 miles, with a few diversions to look at interesting stuff, along the Cross Britain Way. Lovely views from above the south shore of Llyn Tegid.

We're still back in the 1970's for #ThrowbackThursday this week with a very early view of a short train, running on a very short railway at the time, in Llanuwchllyn station.

This weeks #ThrowbackThursday features the return of ‘Alice’ to the Bala Lake Railway way back in the 1970’s.
