For those who don’t know locums are essentially like travel nurses for providers
They have enough experience (theoretically) to hit the ground running and help on a temp basis
I was an APRN with just one year experience
And being in this horrible position of needing to supervise the locums

As a physician, I can say that it’s often not the pay but the workload, lack of subspecialist backup, and lack of cultural amenities that keep people away from rural areas. It’s often possible to make MORE money working locums in underserved rural areas, but I still wouldn’t do it.

I work with a new group of doctors that frankly suck ass. A few are good, but just locums. The “head” is awful. Lazy, entitled and is disrespectful to people with substance abuse, alcoholic and overweight people. I finally had enough and went off today. I made the charge nurse witness, so I don’t

I was having to coach a lot and double check their work

Ontario ER situation is beyond fucked. Need long term solutions. Here's a short term one: slap a 24h urgent care clinic onto every major ER, staffed by the scores of unattached family docs who are currently doing locums. They don't need a lot of equipment. Just need to pay their salaries.
