There's nothing like using all your skills and know-how to track down and observe a bird which is very rare and difficult to find in your locality . . . Adult female and juvenile Australian Logrunners foraging in the leaf litter of a rainforest in Royal National Park.

Only 2 pairs of Australian Logrunners have territories which are intersected by trails in Royal NP, so they're a pretty hard get around Sydney. They territories are also large, so they can disappear for months at a time. I got these two foraging right beside the trail today. #birds #birding #nature

I climbed high up a rainforest hill yesterday in search of a pair of Australian Logrunners after finding their foraging platelets in the leaf litter near one of their primary nesting locations. These are difficult birds in Royal NP. The search was fruitless but the location was ample reward! #birds

These patches of palm jungle in the rainforest in Royal National Park are incredibly beckoning, but it's the action on the more open forest floor here where things get exciting. This is amazing habitat for the birds of the leaf litter: Lyrebirds, scrubwrens, whipbirds, logrunners and thrushes.

Wow. What a great location shot Ricki. Hope you spot the logrunners next time.

Of course they will also produce the same loud raspy scolding call if they encounter threats like predatory reptiles or other scrubwrens when foraging around the feet of superb Lyrebirds, Eastern whipbirds and Australian Logrunners which might stir up invertebrate prey for them. 6/6
