I spend three nights in Longreach: it's hot! Of course I visit the Qantas Founders Museum, try to have a special dinner and have an awkward time doing laundry. Then its the 16 hour train ride to Rockhampton.

Here’s The Midlander with loco 1735 up front at Longreach. Since 1993, Longreach has been the western terminus of QR passenger trains. That may be the Commissioner’s train on the next track which may explain the wooden cars I saw at Rocky two days beforehand

A short drive to Emerald today. 5 hours or so. Will drop in at the Barcaldine Bakery for a breakfast pie (they do the best pastry) & a Vanilla Slice.
