Here are two lovely Lapland longspurs I met today 🤩 they're usually just staging here and will likely continue further north west to the mountains. Their song sometimes features quite intricate patterns.

As with many non-breeding longspurs, there was a lot of process of elimination. Thank god for the internet.

2025 Birds Canada avian ambassador sticker just dropped! Chestnut-collared longspurs inhabit shortgrass prairies & rangelands. Population is down 87% in my lifetime due to habitat loss. A fitting emblem for #conservation work for #birds in 2025 💪🪺#lfg 🌿 (1/2)

I saw the two Pipits first, which had been reported earlier with the Lapland Longspurs, and figured the Longspurs must be long gone. But then... 😍 Sorry to the guy who was nearby and thought the Longspurs were Pipits and left before I figured out the ID. 😬🤷♀️ #birds

At this time of year we always have to persuade eBird that we are seeing Western Palm Warblers. Three together on Cape Island, NS this morning plus a year bird Lark Sparrow, a late Eastern Phoebe and three cracking Lapland Longspurs. #Bird #Birding #Birdwatching

At this time of year we always have to persuade eBird that we are seeing Western Palm Warblers. Three together on Cape Island, NS this morning plus a year bird Lark Sparrow, a late Eastern Phoebe and three cracking Lapland Longspurs. #Bird #Birding #Birdwatching

This Grasshopper Sparrow was the only one I saw yesterday - among the thousands of sparrows and longspurs now milling about on the 🇨🇦 grasslands. Most were hiding in the shade during the heat of the day, but Mr Grasshopper posed nicely out in the open. #birds
