Longstone Lighthouse, located on the Farne Islands off the coast of Northumberland, England, stands tall with its striking red and white cylindrical tower. The attached red buildings contrast sharply against the rugged, rocky coastline. Jagged rocks, speckled with patches of green moss, extend into the foreground, leading toward the calm, dark waters below. A lone seagull soars in the sky to the right, adding a sense of movement to the scene. The soft, diffused light enhances the texture of the rocks and the lighthouse, giving the image a painterly, slightly ethereal quality. This historic lighthouse is famously linked to Grace Darling, the lighthouse keeper’s daughter, who became a national heroine in 1838 for her daring rescue of shipwrecked sailors during a storm.

"Tie the Boat Down" is an award-winning tribute to Grace Darling, famous for rescuing nine people after a shipwreck off the Northumberland coast in 1838.

Today marks the anniversary of Grace Darling's birthday.
