In Dragonflock, by Lily and Matthew Rogers, you play as dragons flying from mountain tops to the villages below. Crush the opposing villages before yours are crushed and win the game. This game uses pyramids as features as well as pieces. Very creative thinking👍

Everyone remembers their first love 😊

Here I am reminiscing with the first pyramid game that captured my heart, Lava Flows by Andy Looney. I was immediately taken by this wonderfully creative game and the simplicity of components used.

If a movement game and a placement game were smashed together you would end up with something similar to Robert Dudley’s Paint the Line.

Reversing the typical order of play by capturing first then placing for points adds layers of depth. Great puzzly fun!

In this game of Snail Invasion, by Kell Brigan, the snails have been blocked by the clever plants🏆

This snappy little 1-2 player game doesn’t take much investment in the way of time or resources. Easy play fueled by random rolls and tight strategic choices.

I learned Homeworlds online, which I highly recommended, mostly playing my friend Calsor and it only felt fitting to post a picture from one of those games.

Last night I had the great honor of playing Mr. Andy Looney in a game of Homeworlds👍😁👍 I had never been star struck before🤩 I lost😅

Afterwards we played John Cooper’s Zarcana, an emergent strategy territorial control game. I’ll definitely revisit this one soon👍 Thanks!

After being silenced by the zen of Zendo I needed something crunchy to get me going again. Enter Robert Dudley’s Krump. This game hit all the right notes to get the gears turning. Filled with trappy strategy that blends checkers and chess it won’t disappoint

Difficulty level = Eventful

What a delight this game was to learn 😊 There’s nothing like protecting a small town from being overrun by invaders. A classic theme that feels very cinematic in this instance.

Pentamid by Jeff Zeitlin, a connect five style game, is very similar to Overdrive. The difference being we grab pieces from nests rather than grabbing any pyramid. A subtle twist and a whole new game 😊 I’ve learned to really enjoy these little differences 😊

At first glance Martian Quilting by Lynn and Gary Wong seems to be straightforward and unassuming. However, after a few moves the game’s complexity becomes apparent. The limited needle movements adds just the right challenge in reckoning. Lovely game 😊

I had some down time recently and decided to hook into Solace by Dale Newfield.

This game is a bit like screen printing, in that the set up can take longer than the play through. But, it’s still an enjoyable little mechanism to get the juices flowing 😁👍

This game almost got the better of us. Fortunately Clay we had to save us from some nasty events and we were able to sample all the gelatinous invaders before they could overrun the town.

Solace ll, also by Dale Newfield, is a bit larger than its predecessor. I like this one more as it adds a touch of crunch.

I didn’t think I was going to like Thomas Brendel’s Middleman as much as I did 😊 I was very surprised at how much like chess it feels but how unlike chess it plays.
Think ahead, way ahead, if you hope to form a tree and not have all your plans unmade.
