St Peter’s Church, Lowick, #Northamptonshire. The tower, with its octagonal lantern and multitudinous pinnacles, was evidently built according to the principle that you can never have too many weathervanes.

The 15thC perpendicular tower at St Peter's, Lowick with its little gold pennants fluttering in the breeze is certainly a stunning sight as you approach.

Bog Asphodel, Narthecium ossifragum growing in a wet heath on Lowick Common, #Cumbria
A good indicator of wet heath and blanket bogs in the uplands. It also occurs in flushes.

This afternoon's Friday pub walk. Lowick Common & Lowick Beacon. Leeches Tarn. Apparently one of the last few places in Cumbria where the medicinal leech lives. I didn't wade in to find out. #LakeDistrict #Lakes #Cumbria

The footrest on the tomb of Ralph Green d.1417 at St Peter's, Lowick seems to be subtly suggesting that he's rather fed up of the status quo and things are about to get interesting!

The 14thC glass at St Peter's, Lowick is absolutely stunning.
Originally making up a Jesse window these panels show the prophet Micah and a kneeling donor knight, possibly Sir Simon de Drayton offering a model of a church.

Handholding tomb of Ralph Green d.1417 and his wife Katherine. Made of alabaster in 1419 in Chellaston, Derbys at a cost of £40. Somewhat bashed about and I think that her hand has been remodelled. A beautiful piece. Lowick St Peter, Northants.

Daniel the prophet. One of several panels from a 14th Century Tree of Jesse, reset in the north aisle at Lowick, Northamptonshire. They predate the late medieval rebuilding of the church, and may even have been brought here from elsewhere.

The #Apiacea is such a mix of poisonous & edible plants it's hard to get your head around the amount of trial & error our ancestors must've gone through to find which was which. #Pignut tubers were apparently an important food source in the past (Nuts in May).
